Loaded with useful tips!
Dot Bustelo's "The Power in Logic Pro" is loaded with useful, real world tips that will enable the Logic user to be more efficient while enjoying the music-making process. The author's credibility and connection with Logic are reflected in her historical anecdotes that are sprinkled throughout the book. Short videos on the included DVD clearly demonstrate many of the techniques presented in the book. The first chapter addresses ways to customize the installation process, and setting up audio and MIDI hardware with the Audio MIDI utility. Power Tips include: saving projects the correct way; pre-fader metering; auditioning SI channel strip settings on audio tracks; protecting key commands; EXS24 samples in the project folder; and sample location; Quick Tips include: separating MIDI drum sounds from a region and Capture As Recording; The Navigating and Editing chapter provides extensive coverage of the amazing Marquee tool. Mastering this powerful tool will in and of itself dramatically improve editing efficiency and creativity! Zooming, navigating by markers, track importing, editing preferences, and edit grid settings are also presented in a way to help the reader put them to use right away.Software Instruments are introduced with useful tips on navigating through the library; backing up channel strip settings for the mobile musician; creating instruments; LFO tricks, and programming Ultrabeat,The Apple Loops chapter addresses removing unwanted elements from drum loops; changing the SI that plays the green loop (as a means of generating fresh sounds); and making your own loops.Content presentation intensifies in the Remixing and Making Beats chapter. Detailed information is provided on: Adjusting Logic's tempo to the beat; time-stretching audio to Logic's tempo; track import and export; Flex Audio; drum replacement; groove templates; speed fades; making a sampler instrument from a drum loop; and humanizing drum beats.Good Housekeeping addresses managing projects; bouncing, project templates; patch names for analog hardware; backing up presets and settings; and Notes.Trouble shooting covers how to trash preferences; setting I/O buffer size; dealing with 3rd party plug-in issues and file corruption.Having consumed much in the way of print and video tutorials on Logic, I've learned many new useful tips and revisited previously learned information from a fresh perspective in this book. It is not as comprehensive as the Apple Pro books, but is perfectly narrow in focus for the intended audience in the book's subtitle.

Not So Much For Beginners
Having mastered Garageband to a degree and finding a desire to to beyond, I purchased Logic Pro 9 from Apple Apps. I then looked around for a good basic book to begin learning to use the product. While this book "The Power In Logic Pro" is reasonably priced and the author is obviously a power users, this book is not for the beginner. In fairness it isn't advertised as such. However, I find the writing of this book as more of a "look what I know" and a kind of Ego trip by the talented author than a a good explanation on the basics of Logic Pro. Example: I looked for a simple explanation as to how to hook up a mic and do a simple voice recording. Couldn't find it. I looked for a simple explanation for doing a master fade across all tracks to end a song. Not there. In my opinion this is more a refresher book for previous users of the Logic product or perhaps folks looking to seque from other DAW products . . . I would like to see someone as involved with Logic Pro as Ms Bustelo is, to write perhaps a book for true beginners with a few more explanations about the first steps of using Logic Pro. Meanwhile, there are a ton of YouTube Logic examples that may serve beginners much better than this book will . . .

Fantastic
I've been learning Logic Pro on and off for about three years, and was filled with ideas and the like, but haven't made much music with it.This book not only has motivated me to try Logic again, but I've actually created two full songs this month with it....some based on what I've learned over the years, but others coming from this book. I actually found the book after watching a Lynda.com online training title just available featuring the author. The videos were so good, and her reputation on point, that I was hoping that she has other resources available.Quite a few of the topics in that video course are also part of this book, albeit with more depth and insight. And in addition, there are tons of useful info here that helped increased my confidence in making music with Logic. I just started reading her other book title, "Logic Pro for Recording Engineers & Producers," right about now.Again, I can't recommend this book enough. Even experienced Logic users can find tidbits to help improve their efficiency and work flow.Do check it!

Good overall intro... has some great tips for speeding up workflow.
Trying to learn everything I can about Logic and the manual is really the best way to get there however its over 1300 pages long! So this book came in real handy with getting a quick overview of important topics/operation. It has some very helpful tips and pointers on how to speed up your workflow (i.e. understanding the marque tool and maximizing it's power).Would definitely recommend as a good tool for someone trying to get a good grip on Logic.

Not for complete beginner, but still really useful
As a total beginner, I thought there was some extremely useful info in this book however I was really stumped on certain parts because she'd tell you to do something with the assumption you had the first clue what she was talking about. One line written behind a command could've saved me hours of research. As I said, I'm a complete beginner so I get that no instruction will be perfect but there were many obvious instructions that were left out. However, her short cuts and tricks were awesome and I did learn a great deal from this book. Really glad I bought it but it would've been more useful with a tiny bit more instruction for the newbie.

Good Book
This book is a great help to get started learning. Very precise instruction and step by step clarity. The only negative I have found is some of the terms are hard to understand as a beginner soI have to read over some parts to get it to sink in. Overall a great help so far.

Easy to follow and very helpful
What can I say...?I moved up to Logic P9 from Garageband and this has helped get me off the ground with the new/different controls within the programme. It's really easy to follow, especially (as in my situation) if you have a project you can import (Garageband tracks drop in easily). The DVD is a back-up to the book content and pretty much repeats what's in the book - but - if you're like me and prefer that means of learning you'll find it useful.I researched around a little not just in terms of reviews/recommendations but also for price. At this price here on Amazon it's not even worth pondering over!

Not bad but not good either
One shouldn't expect too much from 220 GBP. The sound isn't bad at all but in a way quite basic. It won't blow your socks off if it's that what you're after.
