Excellent. Past excellent.

This in s is one of the best books I have bet read. Hands down. Starts cowboy. Non fiction btw. Evolves into author enlisting in English armed forces at start of w w 1. Becoming observer. Pilots. Surviving. Three years war adventures. Living. Returning to America. It’s sentence by sentence page by page very well written as we bite our nails in the jump seat. Whether you are cowboy. Airplane hero bravery sheer guts fan this clean book from scenes to language takes you for a hellova ride. Yes you are aware of recreation days Entertainment ladies. Tasteful. However. Every day the two pilot essentially a piece of junk airplane hours daily over enemy territory with just a machine gun and sometimes 30 pound bombs just hurtled at targets coming back alive. Read it. Appreciate it.

It Left Me Wanting To Read Another Story of His Life

This is the last book in Ralph Moody's autobiographical series that starts with "Little Britches". The book shows the ups and downs of being in agriculture in the 1920s in the Midwest. Ralph goes from boom to bust more than once in this book. His ability to start from zero and become successful is nothing short of amazing. When I came to the end of the book I wanted more story. Moody went on to become a successful grocery store chain executive. When "A Horse of a Different Color" sunsets, Ralph's future is by no means certain. I think he had another couple of books left to tell the story of his life.

A Favorite Book to Read and Reread

Ralph Moody is a wonderful storyteller, and emphasizes hard work, honestly, respect and caring for others, generosity and facing trials with determination to succeed. This is a book to read over and over, like visiting a good friend.

I am so glad we discovered these books!

The characters and incidents in this book are so well portrayed by Ralph Moody. This is a compelling picture of life out west in the early twentieth century. The issues the characters face are much like those we deal with today. Moody's effortless portrayal of a strong work-ethic is accomplished so easily without "preaching" to the reader. His characters of varying personalities are enjoyable to get to know. There is the dependable experienced farmer, the irate sheepherder, the loyal small-town switchboard operator and the shady bankers just to name a few. My teenage boys love to read these books. Horse of a Different Color is one of their favorites.I only wish there were more in the series. Highly recommended.

A Horse of a Different Color

This book is the last of the Ralpy Moody series. My husband and I have been reading the series this year. We used the books to help relieve the monotony of two trips across Kansas and Nebraska this summerand fall. While reading this book, we actually drove to Oberlin Kansas and Cedar Bluffs to see where this story took place. Ralph Moody has a way of explaining ranching, farming, and people that make his stories come alive. My children read "Little Britches in school years ago. We read them after they came home raving about the story. My husband and I have enjoyed reading them again, now in our golden years.

A family favorite!

A really good last story to this wonderful series that my whole family has grown to love. I read this entire series aloud to my family over the course of several years. It is definitely one of our favorite book series. Written with so much detail, you feel like you are there...and so much love and humor, you cannot stop reading it. Start with Little Britches and work your way up. You will not be disappointed in this wonderful story of a by-gone era that will forever live on, thanks to Ralph Moody's reminisces.
