If you have a student in a robotics class this product is OUTSTANDING!!!! It is well built, the instructions are clear and easy to understand, even the way they manufactured the pieces aids in the assembly. I sat down with my 14 year old and gave him general direction for the first few instructions. Then he took off on his own. He even came back to it on his own after we agreed to take a break till the next day. He finished it on his own and proceeded to do the programming. Watching your child take that kind of interest in something is worth every penny.

Nice Little Robot. Micro:bit is a good platform. Easy to program.Built kit in two days with 10 year old daughter.Advertising for sample programs is a bit misleading. Videos make it appear the sample programs do more and perform better than they really do. This is just a simple basic robot with limited sensors don't expect too much.Besides the sensors on the Micro:bit Tobbie II has two IR sensors in the front that can detect reflected IR from an object in close range. Tobbie II can move Forward and Backward and rotate Left and Right. All motions are On/Off (no speed control).

I purchased this for my daughter's ninth birthday. She is as computer savvy as any 9-year-old and loves techy stuff, like coding. She and I had to assemble the robot together, as it was a little too difficult for her to do by herself. Once it was assembled though, she plugged the memory into the usb on the computer, went to the website and immediately began coding it! I didn't help her at all with the coding and programming of the robot and she has gotten it to do all sorts of commands/functions. It is quite sturdy and can walk on carpet as well as hardwood floors. The only reason for the loss of the star is that is was a little difficult to put together and it must be put together perfectly, or it wouldn't work. I would definitely recommend this as a gift for any 9 - 13 year old kid...especially if they are interested in coding!

Dad,I was pleasantly surprised at how eager Michael was to put together the robot that you and mom had given to him as a gift. It was midnight Thursday as he was seeking to commence on assembling it, but when I saw how complex the assembly was, I told him we should wait until the next morning. He was up early, poking around at it, and we began the assembly. It was a great experience, building it with him, and feeling proud in seeing how adept and diligent he was in following the detailed instructions (which were quite good). It also gave me opportunity to discuss with him things I’ve learned over my career about engineering, fabrication methods of plastics and metals, injection molding gates, error-proofing (which this design had decent examples of), complexity based on # of moving parts, etc. in the context of our work. All together it took about 3 hours.Unfortunately, when it was fully assembled, the walk function simply did not work. I helped him troubleshoot and re-assemble the robot, but there was seemingly an issue with the product itself, from best I can tell, nothing he / we did incorrectly. I felt terribly disappointed for him, as he was so excited, and worked so patiently and attentively to then be frustrated by the robot not working as designed. It seems like something with the motors, or perhaps a plastic burr creating a physical interference, as the robots body spins free (when not under its own weight) but instead of walking, you can hear the servos cranking with a halted movement.In any case, towards the end I could sense he was very disappointed and frustrated (a feeling I shared, largely on his behalf), so I don’t want to pressure him to re-assemble another one, or embarrass him by offering him a different pre-assembled robot.In any case, we appreciate the thoughtful gift. However, please be mindful in how you or mom bring this up, as I don’t want him to feel awkward about the situation.Regards,Aa

Compré este robot para mi hijo de 13 años pensando que lo mantendría ocupado un par de semanas, pero con ayuda de mi esposo lo hicieron en tres horas! The legs keep getting dislocated and the robot has to be taken apart and reassembled. Also the software to program the robot can only be used on an ipad. It would be a cool product if we could get it to work consistently.

If you have ever used a raspberry pi or other single board computer this should be very easy for you to work with. Even if you hadn't the instructions are very clear and helpful. My son and I had a great time putting it together and it works very well.
