SugatsuneML80BLK Touch Latch Magnetic for Medium Doors Black

I bought this magnet latch to replace a broken latch in my expensive stereo receiver/electronics cabinet that I have had for 15 years. It is a strong latch and easily holds a 20" wide x 48" tall x 1/4" thick tempered glass door. The push and release mechanism works better than the original latch. I am sure this latch will hold up through many new equipment changes and regular use.

Only the screw for the metal plate are so cheap, when I installed all 5 and all become stripped screws. Have to go get 5 extra screws from home improvement store.

Some reviews criticize this latch for lack of holding power, but in the light-duty applications it is intended for, it works well. I use two (one top, one bottom) on a roughly 2' x 4' custom-made door for a storage area, and it snaps the door out smartly when needed and holds it in place when it's supposed to. In this application, I previously used the most common magnetic touch latch (with a round-shape piston) that's sold at all the big-box home improvement stores and even one high-end wood-working retailer, and it was unreliable both in latching action and in holding power as its two metal "magnetism transfer fittings" (not sure what to call them--on either side of the inner magnet on the piston) would come loose and move themselves sideways, off the magnet, greatly lessening their holding power on the metal strike plate. By contrast, this rectangular-shaped latch looks and feels good quality, moves smoothly, has no parts loosening up, and works as intended, at least so far. A great improvement over the very very cheap part it replaced, for not much more money. I have taken off one star for the tedium of installation/alignment that marks all all magnetic latches and which could really use some innovation.

Bought a nice "Hutch" from IKEA; and to my "surprise" the magnetic trigger was broken. So after looking for a replacement I found this. I installed it and it works great, looks like I didn't do anything. and the door closes like it is suppose too.

I could not use it, the sistem to open and close is very specific.

The magnet doesn't hold the door closed right, we have tried different angles and places along the door. It's just a cheap piece of crap and you can do much better.

These latches are very strong. I used them on some pretty heavy cabinet doors and they work great.
