SP Bel-Art, H-B Enviro-Safe Liquid-In-Glass Pocket Laboratory Thermometer; -5 to 50C, Closed Metal Case, Environmentally Friendly (B60570-1400)

I bought this thermometer to replace a mercury thermometer mounted inside a sensitive instrument's case. Due to the position of the mercury thermometer at the bottom of a viewing well the mercury column was very hard to distinguish from the vertical light reflections on the glass windows and thermometer body. Getting a true reading was difficult and time consuming to say the least. The blue alcohol indicating medium in the Enviro-Safe thermometer is so much easier to read that just a glance can give accurate data.

The package is good. But the liquid column is broken with air gaps in the middle, so the thermometer gives inaccurate readings. It is not usable as received.

Thermometer arrived with alcohol in tube separated into 3 or 4 sections. I was able to heat (and cool) it gently (in a pot of water on the stove) up to the maximum temperature, and eventually I was able to get all the alcohol together. It now works fine, but it was not a trivial job to get it to work properly.

Unit was in centigrade not Fahrenheit.

The thermometer had a broken liquid column with air pockets and was unusable. I bought this for a workshop with kids, testing water, and this thermometer was unusable, money was thrown away! Casing is nice but not helpful to protect a thermometer that doesn't function!
