Very much enjoy the taste, my husband says it gives off kids cold medicine vibes, but I think the grape is more like Gatorade. In terms of performance, think the product works great for efforts over 1 hour, I supplement with other products to get to 100g of carbs/hour but this hasn't give me gut issues!

Good for training

I just spent 7 days riding 68 miles per day on average with a 100-mile century thrown in at RAGBRAI in Iowa and this stuff made a huge difference.On the days that I did nothing but Gu Energy Roctane Drink Mix (w/ caffeine in the morning and w/o in the afternoon), Gu gels, Gu stroopwafels, with plenty of water, and Gu Roctane Protein Recovery and Gu BCAA after. I felt fantastic. I crushed my PR for a century with a 21.5 mph average over 103 miles. On other days, I ate other food and felt awful at the end of the day.(I will add that I used PR Lotion. I feel that helped my performance, too.)There's no question that Gu's stuff helped me to hit my maximum performance. It provides a perfect blend of nutrients and electrolytes. And considering that it's a meal replacement, it's a no-brainer.I will be using this for all long rides in the future.If you look at this as meal replacement it's a check of a good deal.

I took this on my half marathon. The taste is good. It is thick like toothpaste consistency. I do not like the delivery system. It was hard to tear open and messy when taking it. So not easy to use especially while running. I think it gave me the energy I needed to keep going.

I have been using GU products for a while and they taste good and work good. I use them for biking and they definitely give me a boost. I always get some with caffeine. Never had any stomach problems with them either.

I want to buy the big jug .I don't need individual packets like this unless I am traveling. I used this for my first ever ultra race and it was amazing. I did have GI issues that kept me from eating well. This helped me keep carbs and electrolytes going in. Amazing taste!

Three stars may be an unfair rating. Basically, I drank a box of these before and during long runs (20 to 35km) and enjoyed drinking them, but no more so than any other drink. I didn't come away with any real sense of being especially well hydrated or energized, or not. There were so many other variables that determined whether I felt well equipped during those runs - temperature, wind, what I was eating, whether I was more or less tired before beginning any given run, etc. In short, based on my own runs I find it impossible to fairly evaluate the product other than for taste (fine, but not a drink I would request in a restaurant) and digestability (no problem), ease of mixing with water (easy - but some bits appeared to flat around afterward and may have got caught up in the nozzles of my water bottles - although this was not a problem when I drank).
