Great with minor modifications
I bought this for my son’s 4th birthday. I play clarinet and had already gotten him the DooD that he’s been really great with. When I came home with a sax he wanted one too. I was really surprised at the resistance of playing these instruments. I play “real” ones and was “struggling” a bit, especially with this jsax. The notes would squeak if they came out at all. I ended up switching the reed it came with for the one that came with the DooD (they’re the same) and it was a noticeable improvement but still not “right”, especially with the lower notes. Out of annoyance I threw one of my wooden clarinet reeds in it and was delighted that it fit. It was also so. much. easier to play - with my 3.5 reed! I ordered a few 2.0 clarinet reeds for my son to use, and I recommend that right off the bat when you purchase this. The clarinet reed is longer and thicker so it is harder to get out, and should not be left in the instrument. I’d recommend that anyway, as well as a thorough swabbing after each use. I don’t care what the manufacturer says about that. Spit gets in there, clean it! So far as sound goes, definitely more recorder like than sax like, but it’s a great introduction for small children. Perfect size for them to explore and learn.

For my son
We have a saxophone but my son is still not ready to take care of the cool instrument by himself. I wanted him to have an instrument that is easy to care and functions a little more than recorders. He loves it! I find it a little to light and awkward to play as an adult but I love the sound. I hope he can enjoy playing until he starts playing the real saxophone.

Over-Priced
I rolled the dice on this one. If I felt it played reliably, then I'd feel like it was worth the money. I can play notes, but it fails when I get town to the lower keys. I thought I might resolve any issues with my playing or the instrument itself. As a point of reference, I can play a regular sax. I still haven't figured out the problem with this instrument and I missed the return window. If you want to purchase this for an older child that can handle a regular sax, buy the regular sax!!! Otherwise, I've spent $105 and some change after tax and can't enjoy it. Maybe you'll have better luck, or maybe you won't.

It is what it is
When I saw this product for the first time, I was very excited to purchase, as I have been a musician for many years, and have owned many pro level saxophones. With this being said, I went into this purchase, knowing that this is advertised as a beginner level type of instrument. I watched some of the videos, and I thought it sounded good enough and looked fun enough to buy. The look of the saxophone is decent and the action on the keys is not bad. It comes with two synthetic reeds, which are nice and a mouthpiece cover and everything that is advertised. So if you've ever played saxophone before, this particular instrument plays more like a plastic flute recorder. Having said that, as a saxophonist, I would not recommend anyone buying this instrument if you are learning to play the saxophone as it does not have all of the fingerings, and it lacks a true upper register key. Please forgive me if it sounds like I am raining on the parade of this particular product, but in all fairness, it would be easier for a beginner to purchase a used or student level saxophone and start with it, than to try to learn on this particular thing, and then move over to a real sax that's going to be even more foreign . I'm going to continue to mess around with the instrument and I will provide an update in the future. So far I consider this to be nothing more than a novelty.

Fun way to learn sax
It’s an actual saxophone with a reed and air and saxophone fingering. Not electric. Works like a real sax. Great for learning and eventually graduating to brass. I love playing it, my wife and neighbors… not so much.

Disappointing, hard to get sound
I really wanted to love this. I used to play and thought this could be a fun way to get back into it. But getting a decent sound out of this was so hard, and the sound I did get was not great. It just doesn’t seem very playable. It’s such a shame.
