Something Wrong?
I can't put my figure on it, but this drive is slow. For example it took 26 minutes to run the benchmark, screenshots provided. I did this through the USB interface that came with the drive, I did the same with an older drive (The Fujitsu) and it took less than a minute to run with the same USB port and interface device that came with the Seagate drive. Something is wrong, because of the time it took to do the test, but the test results are comparable to the older Fujitsu drive that runs at the same speed, except access times. These three drives were down with the same test parameters as well, but the 8TB drive was the only one of the three to be in the computer. The program used to do the bench mark was the Linux program gnome-disks. The three images are the screen shots of the test results. The drive functions, but I had a hard time formatting it, which lead me to do the bench test. It works, but it shouldn't take a half an hour to do a test that normally takes less than a minute. It also takes a long time to delete something saved to the drive, and it doesn't want to dismount either. It makes me leery of buying anymore Seagate drives. Also this drive is the OEM version, and not the one in the photo, a minor point I wouldn't normally bring up, but the other issues are a cause for concern. The Seagate drive has a 1199.27 msec access time (Note that this is over one second for each access.)Fujitsu has a 16.74 msec access time, which was run under the same conditions as the Seagate drive.8TB has the 17.92 msec access time. (You can match the access times in the screenshots to see which is which.)I feel that I was sold an inferior product, but I don't know how to prove it. I'm not going to use the Seagate drive for anything, because it doesn't perform, and can't be trusted.

Hard drive warranty is expired.
Both hard drives I received were out of warranty from Seagate. Fantom Drives supposedly has a 1 year warranty, but it pales in comparison to Seagate's 2 year warranty. If we do the math, that means that these hard drives must've been sitting around for two years in order to run out of warranty. The label on the hard drive is white, similar to a shucked drive, and it is not green like the picture. There is supposedly a 12V power supply in the box, so that you can connect a 3.5 drive. However, neither of my kits came with one, and now the kit is useless to me.I suggest buying the hard drive separately and a 3.5in enclosure if you need to clone your HDD to a new one. Avoid this kit. My kit was shipped and sold by Amazon.

Completely Wrong Product Description , don’t buy wrong Hard Drive
The HDD they include in this bundle is not the same HDD from Seagate that they advertise in the pictures , the label is different and is not supposed to be sold as retail, I returned mine as soon as I opened the box, I didn’t care about the accessories just wanted the 5TB Drive, this is the only listing at this time that it has it as New , but the description of this product and pictures are not accurate, really dispointed.I immediately went agin searching and found the 4TB 2.5 inch version ship and sold from Amazon.com brand new just not prime gonna have to wait a month but is worth the wait.

Big single-task Drive
Drive is absolutely huge, 5TB in a 2.5" size. It's 15mm thick, so it ended up NOT fitting since the laptop. Most 2.5" drives are thinner, 12mm or less, and this was the first one I've ever run into that is 15mm.The drive has decent sequential I/O performance, 139mb/sec read and 130mb/sec write sustained. As soon as you try to access two different files, the head seek time destroys I/O performance. Average seek time is a hair below 20ms.For those who don't know, this means the drive is good for single sequential file I/O. As long as the drive is working on read/writing one non-fragmented file, performance will be good. But if you have two files being accessed at the same time, that 20ms average seek time destroys performance. NTFS filesystem defrag was gettin about 10mb/sec throughput because it was access two different parts of the drive. GPARTED resizing a linux ext4 filesystem also hit 10mb/sec throughput for the same reason.Imagine using this as your Windows boot drive; something is always accessing your boot drive so you're going to cause a lot of disk head seeks which will absolutely kill the performance.

Massive amounts of storage space for the form factor, but very slow
Its amazing that there is this much storage density in this form factor. But all that 10lbs of s**** in a 5lbs bag comes at a cost, and that cost is speed. This thing caps out at 16-18MB/s write speeds when downloading steam games. But, overall, an excellent drive for desktop computers with limited space, if you have a laptop that can support a thiCC boi like this one it may be worth it to you if you need to tote around tons of data locally. Its about twice as thick as a standard 2.5" drive. Works well in my Phanteks Evole Shift 2, AFTER I modified one of my 2.5" drive bay brackets to account for how thick this drive is. We will see how long it lasts, I've got several 3.5" Seagate Barracuda drives with well over 20k hours on them and still chugging along. I hope I get the same life out of this drive!
