Flip-o-storic: Make Your Own Wacky Prehistoric Beast! (Mix-and-Match Board Books, 2)

My daughter loved this book as a child; We spent many happy hours creating 100's of fabulous and funny beasts. I now purchase the same book for nieces, nephews, friend's children and grandchildren. Hardcover; solid, beautiful done with colorfully illustrated pages, in thirds, to flip, create, laugh and enjoy! This book is a classic and a must have for any child's library, helping to promote a lifelong love of books. I still enjoy it and I am old. Okay, older.

My son who is a Year anda few months loves this. We make up names for some, but he loves that he can flip the pieces to make different Dinosaurs. The book is really well made. The pages have stood up well to the rough handling at that age. We ended up getting a couple of other books in the series. He lives the dog version and the pre-historic version too.

We received another Sara Ball book called "Crocguphant" in a box of used books from a family member. Our 14 month old son LOVES that book so I took a look around for other books illustrated by Sara Ball and found this. Like the larger Crocguphant, this book has an animal on each page, but each page is divided into thirds so you can flip just a portion of it and thus the animal now has a new head or whatever and thus is an all new, made up animal. The opposite side of each page has the name of the animal broken into thirds so the name page also flips to come up with new animal names.This book is pretty large for a little kid, so can only look at it on the floor with my 14 month old. It is of really great quality and I'm looking forward to enjoying it with him for years to come. It is not spiral bound like some of Sara Ball's older titles.

When you're waiting for grandchildren to appear in your life - and beginning to think that time is running out - this is the sort of book that really is very hard to resist . Not exactly an original concept but that's all part of its charm. The comparable book that I had when I was 4 or 5 is now a collector's classic, worth a 'bob or two' and an absolute delight for all who are allowed to turn its manypages. Ms Ball's book - with its 'clean' graphic style - is a welcome addition to the genre and is sure tol entertain the next generation of grandchildren (and grandparents) for many years to come.
