Dear Wright Tool - please keep making these awesome USA tools!
I am not a professional mechanic. I am a serious hobbiest/DIYer. I cannot compare this tool to Snap On, Mac, etc. But that is not a good comparison anyways. Wright Tool is an INDUSTRIAL tool maker. These tools are not to my knowledge marketed to the automotive (or hobby/homeowner) markets.I learned about Wright Tool in the US Marines. We used their large (3/4" and 1" drive) socket sets and huge ratchets to bust nuts on heavy suspension parts on Abrams Tanks in all climes and places. Wright tools were in our tool boxes side by side with Snap On stuff. So I feel qualified to say that their stuff can definitely take some abuse in serious hundred-thousand-pound-plus-industrial-kinds of ways. Now as far as spending my own money on them, I am tickled pink by the value that they represent. I own probably a few hundred in Wright stuff and every single thing evokes a certain pride in ownership. The fit and finish, weight, polish just outstanding for dollar spent. This 3/8 ratchet is my new favorite. As others say, the action is tight and positive, and is very "fine-toothed" . It engages very positively and I am sure will last a very, very long time in my application. I don't think I will ever have to worry about it slipping a tooth and smashing my knuckles even at, say, 100 plus pounds of effort. If anything Ihope it wears in and loosens just a tad, so that it effectively "ratchets" on a very loose nut. This is not an issue, no ratchet will work on a completely free spinning nut (obviously). The best for last: this is a US (Ohio?) Built tool, as are all Wright tools I have come across. I am impressed to see a product of this caliber, US made, at a reasonable price point. I hope Wright tool can keep doing what they are doing. I will keeping buying as long as they are US made.Summary: nice ratchet, nice balance, beautiful polish, priced not much higher than a craftsman (watch out as China junk is now wearing the craftsman name at sears)

Top Quality
Excellent ratchet! Feels great in the hand is very well-balanced and beautifully finished. And to top it off, it is a double pawl ratchet that is very sturdy. Very happy with this purchase. I’ve been upgrading my toolbox with Wright tools and donating my old ones.

Beautifully designed & constructed tools.
This Wright Tool ratchet is beautifully designed and constructed, and feel just right in the hand. Perfectly contoured, no sharp edges, meticulously polished. This is a short ratchet at 7" size (#3490) and I prefer it for light to medium-duty jobs, but it is strong enough for high torque work. For higher torque applications, I prefer Wright's 10" ratchet (#3425) because of the additional leverage. To address the normal wear that a professional can put on any tool after years of use, Wright offers drop-in replacement kits to service their ratchets; these are repairable tools, not disposable tools. Although Wright Tools are designed for and used by professionals, if you are an avid amateur and enjoy the look, fit, feel, and durability of premium tools, Wright Tools are well worth the money. They will withstand much more torque than a standard ratchet, and I find them to be equal or superior to the Snap-On ratchets I use.

Excellent US-made 3/8" drive ratchet!
This Wright ratchet is a great example of American-made quality. There is a great deal of heft in the handle, though it remains well balanced, and the whole mechanism has very little play and ratchets very smoothly. The ratchet is of the double-pawl design, so it gets 80+ clicks per 360 revolution of the drive end, despite only having about 42 teeth. It has three tooth engagement, so the mechanism is definitely strong and should hold up to substantial load. The reversing mechanism is smooth, easy to operate and doesn't seem to reverse itself like some of the cheaper ratchets out there. In terms of appearance, this ratchets is chromed from end to end at a level I can only compare to SK or even Snap On. Even the drive end is chromed, which is a nice touch and leaves you with one less part that can wear down and rust over time (if you're in that kind of a climate).Wright is a quality American brand of hand tools and this ratchet is one of their finer offerings. It is perfectly suited for automotive work, industrial or home hobbyist/weekend warrior. At this price point, it definitely gives the truck brands a run for their money in terms of value for your money. If you don't own any Wright products, I highly suggest you check them out. Definitely going to buy more of this brand down the road.

Excellent quality, great value, and made in U.S.A.!!!
Excellent quality. This ratchet is light years ahead of my old Craftsman ratchet that this is replacing. As others have noted, the handle is built solidly and the gears operate smoothly. It is noticeably tighter than the Craftsman with almost no backlash (slop) in the gears. The full polished finish is almost on par with the truck brands. This is the best "bang for the buck" you can get for a quality, American made tool. This tool should probably cost twice what it is being sold for here on Amazon (and probably will if people start to catch on). This is my second Wright Tool purchase and I am impressed. In fact, Wright Tools are excellent quality, reasonably priced, and made in the U.S.A. with American steel; unlike Craftsman which are all made in China now. I will be replacing all of my Crapsman tools with Wright Tools. Buy this ratchet, you will not regret it.

Well-built ratchet, durable and strong!
This ratchet is built to last for the "long run", it reminds me of some of the old USA-made S-K ratchets that my father owned and I often used as a younger man to repair my various motorized fun machines. The ratchet action is solid, perhaps a bit too tight feeling at first but hopefully will loosen up as the ratchet wears a bit over time. If the ratchet action is too tight, it will sometimes cause trouble when tightening a nut or bolt by causing the fastener to back off instead of tightening up because of the restrictive ratchet teeth causing drag and not allowing the head to "slip" properly as the handle gets moved back and forth. Definitely not a problem on rusty nuts and bolts, though.
