Molecular Biology of the Cell, Fifth Edition: The Problems Book

This was a required purchase for my Molecular Cell Biology course, which I am currently enrolled (Undergraduate class). Most of the problems that are in this book are heavily orientated around conceptual ideas rather than specific nitty gritty details. This is great because our professor assigns us the questions that will be on the problems test, but with the chance to have the question worded slightly different to affect the answer (we are not supposed to memorize the answer, rather understand the concepts that are be questioned). The solutions DVD that comes with the book is really nice and offers an easily searchable layout to find the chapters answers that you are looking for. Everything is explained very nicely and I very rarely find myself having to go back to the book for clarification for the answer's reasoning. This is what makes this book deserve five out of five stars. I would recommend this book to any one of my colleges, however they probably already have it.

I purchased this book because my cell bio professor said he was going to be using it for in class work. I am a grad student majoring in cell biology and I have enjoyed both the problems book and the text that accompanies it. The layout is organized in a way that it is easy to find what your looking for, and the videos, problems and answer explanations on the CD that comes with both books (the problems book and the text book) are extremely helpful. I would definately recommend these books to someone interested in cell biology. It is as up to date as it can be with regards to new developments in the field (things are discovered and changed almost everyday in cell biology), but the book provides extensive background information as well as detailed accounts of developments, both new and old, contributions to the field and additional resources.

I would like to buy the book, but I bought only the problems book because I decided study by myself. It is a awesome book. The questions in this book makes me think beyond the matter of molecular biology. It is a book well prepared. I totally recommend !!!!

I bought this new because my cell/ mol. bio recommend this book, as well as some friends whom already pass the course. The language is pretty easy to comprehend, even for a new grad student like me. The pictures and colors are great, which won my heart I also like the table of content which is laid out in sentences that summarize the content.

It's candidly quite difficult for me to give a good review of this book since I have not as yet purchased the textbook for which the Problem Book was written. But I have glanced through the Problem book and I do like a lot of what I read.

Taking cellular biology, I was needing a source of extra questions. This book asked questions that aligned with my class, and provided good examples. It is an excellent resource for those taking cell bio, and not to difficult to read. I would recommend it.

This is an excellent problems book. It contains many thought-provoking, open-ended problems designed to teach the material. From my point of view, it is worth the price I paid.

日本語版が出ているかは知らないが、英語版で購入した。 Chapterのセクション毎に問題が作成されており 一区切り付いたごとに確認できる仕様。 CellのChapter末尾の問題の模範解答がこれに記載されているため Cellを十分に活用したい人は買わないと損。 Problems Books中の問題はDVDに解答がPDF形式で収録されているため、 プリントアウトしておくと便利。 できればCell Reference editionとあわせて買うとよい。

So much more helpful than just the MBOtC book, and no faults !

This book is a solid supplement to the highly acclaimed textbook by Alberts at al. Each chapter is divided into sections that correspond to those in the Alberts. For each section there are various categories of problems under the following headings (as applicable): "Definitions", "True/False", "Thought Problems", "Calculations" and "Data Handling". The answers are found on the CD that comes with the book. The answers to all the problems at the end of the Alberts are given. However, the majority of the problems presented are original and not found in the textbook. These problems, as well as their answers and the many figures are very informative and often give valuable insights into particular topics that may not have been necessarily obvious in the textbook. Most importantly, solving them often necessitates critical thinking about key aspects of molecular biology. This in turn results in a lot of learning. I highly recommend this book and strongly encourage students that are using the Alberts to get it and work out as many problems as they could. Solving problems is an essential part of learning a subject like molecular biology, and this book effectively serves this purpose.

Viel mehr kann ich da jetzt auch nicht drüber schreiben. Arbeite dieses Buch zum Lehrbuch durch, und ich finde es hilft enorm, sich die INhalte zu merken und mit ihnen zu arbeiten. Ansonsten müsste man sich ja selbst irgendwelche Probleme, kreativen Fragestellungen etc ausdenken - Ohne ist Fachbuch lesen doch nur überfliegen, wenn man mit dem Inhalt nicht irgendwie arbeitet.
