The zapper kills the bugs and they fall out the bottom.
This bug zapper works very well. Gets the bugs and most importantly the bottom is open enough to let the bugs fall out. I have had a different one and the bugs wouldn't fall out and had to turn it upside down and shake it to get them out.

Works great.
It's loud but it does a good job of zapping the insects.

Works almost too well
This thing is a beast. Mosquitos have always been a problem at our house. After turning it on for the first time, I thought it wasn't working. After 5 or 10 minutes, the onslaught began. For the next several hours it was killing dozens of mosquitos every minute. I was very happy that first day. The second day, it wasn't doing so well, so I went out and checked on it. Here is my only complaint. This zapper had killed so many bugs the night before that the grids were coated thickly with bug carcasses. So much so that no more bugs could be killed until it was cleaned. The company advertises that the dead bugs will fall through the bottom, but most get stuck to the electrified grid and clog it up. I have to clean the grid with a skinny toothbrush almost daily, not a chore I enjoy. In summary, it works great and kills tons of mosquitos, but be prepared to clean the grid of dead bugs often.

Go With the Flow...tron
Starting early on in August, we began seeing a lot of flying insects getting into the house at night. Nothing major, maybe one or two at night. I always had wanted a bug zapper. But having the few stray bugs in the house was enough to get my wife to agree it was time to get one (she hates bugs). It was easy to set up; we hung it on a ornamental plat hanger from the side of our shed. Ran an outdoor power cord (make sure you get a properly rated, outdoor power cord for safety and code) to it, added an outdoor timer with a dusk/dawn setting, and it automatically goes on and off right when I want it to.There have been a few times I've manually shut it off. We had a good week of torrential downpours (one or two nights were the worst I've seen in years). The Flowtron held up just fine! However, because I like to take care of anything I have to it lasts a long time, I've begun unplugging the unit during heavy rain. Although, I must reiterate, it was perfectly fine in the rain. Now to the important part: the bugs. Our reasoning for having it was to use it to lure bugs away from our home, and boy does it work. We used to get bugs coming inside, and they'd be covering our screen doors and window screens. Since we installed this, there are no bugs on on screens except maybe the occasional moth and that's rare.My wife has type-O blood, which studies have shown is more desirable to mosquito. When we found that out, it really made a lot of sense since she gets a dozen bites and I may not get any. But since we added the Flowtron, she's probably gotten only 1 or 2 bites in the past month. The Flowtron comes with a mosquito lure, and it works on the mosquito we have in New England. The zapping noise isn't too loud at all, which was something we had feared as a neighbor down the street had one and it would keep us up at night (his sounded like a Star Wars lightsaber, and another neighbor had to call the police on him to get him to turn it off). The Flowtron unit is just loud enough that you can hear it working (the sound is actually enjoyable) but not enough where it's going to annoy neighbors of have anyone losing sleep. In fact it's so quiet, it makes me wish I had sprung for the larger Flowtron model, I think it's the Flowtron 80D. I know the one I have is 1 acre coverage, but I'd have got the 2 acre coverage one. Mainly because I really like the noise and watching the bugs crackle when they get zapped. And I think the bigger one might draw in ever more bugs for me to enjoy the show. This was an excellent purchase. The Flowtron works great, and stands up to weather. It's reduced the amount of bugs we were getting to almost nothing. It hasn't been a large boost in my electricity bill, especially since it's not running 24/7 thank to the timer I added.
