Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa Review: Cute series installment - This series is a lovely one; Silverman has a nice sense of humor and a good feel for the pacing of the story and how to give readers a satisfying ending. Cocoa is a fun character and reminds me of a cow horse I once knew. In this installment, Cocoa is determined to live in the house, and Kate is even more determined to get him back out into the barn before her parents return. Betsy Lewin's illustrations are great, especially when it comes to Cocoa's expressions. I would recommend any of this series. My 3 1/2 year old boy really likes them--we're at our max renewal with them from the library and I'm slowly adding them to our home collection as Christmas and birthday allow. If you're looking for other good books, my son also keeps going back to the Mr. Putter & Tabby, and Henry & Mudge series, both by Cynthia Rylant. Review: Fun, smart and well written! - Cowgirl Kate Series is fun, smart and well written. I read a number of horse books in this age range, and this was THE BEST. I bought the whole series.

Cowgirl Kate is GREAT!
My 5 year old daughter has recently entered a stage where horses are IT, and this is a great book to tie her love of horses with her love of bedtime stories. It's fun to read about this adventurous cowgirl and her, always hungry, cowhorse. To top it off it is a beautifully illustrated book, my daughter loved the bright, fun pictures.

Adorable!
The sweetest little girls book series! My daughter, my husband, myself and Nana all love them! My daughter is four years old and they will be great for years! These books usually have 3 or 4 chapters and each chapter is only a couple of pages, and each page only a few sentences. Great pictures too! I buy them for all my friends kids for birthdays and Christmas. They make a nice gift and this way I can get them the whole series over time:)

my son has loved these since he was 2
my son has loved these since he was 2, and i love them because they're a rare book with a positive female lead who isn't a girly girl. they also have nice themes, like friendship, working hard, and patience.

I stumbled across this series of books when I was looking for some `horse' based stories for my son. Cowgirl Kate is very close to her horse Cocoa but it still comes as a surprise when she wakes up one morning and finds that he is inside the house! Cocoa decides he prefers to be inside and that the house is much better than the stable, he has a good look round and it takes all Kate's powers of persuasion to convince him that the stable is just as attractive a home! There is a lot to recommend this book. It promotes a strong sense of friendship and an engaging, humorous story as well as containing a good range of vocabulary relating to the house and high frequency words, a variety of punctuation (particularly speech marks) and strong illustrations. The book is also divided into short chapters so you can read it in manageable chunks. The only slight word of warning is that there are a few Americanisms, for example `faucet' instead of `tap' but I didn't feel that these detracted from the story as a whole.
