Porno (Norton Paperback)

I’m reading the Mark Renton series while in quarantine, and this one is a re-read for me. It’s been nice to see the characters grow, and stay the same, from Skagboys, through Trainspotting (with which the film took a few liberties, and omitted some characters). Man, Begbie is a POS, but Welsh clearly develops that character so you’ll dislike him. It’s a wonder he has any mates or girlfriends. I’m looking forward to continuing this series.

If you've never read Irving Welsh before, this may not be a good starting point. Porno is basically a follow up to Train spotting and it's always fun to catch up with old cherished characters.

Of course you have to have read Trainspotters and Skag Boys first otherwise you won't the right feel for the two main protagonists and "Edinbura". I disliked the main characters while all of the supporting characters are quite likable. Even Nikki is hard to like considering her shallowness and need to be successful now even if it means working in porn. In the end though it was an enjoyable light read and continuation of some of our favorite Trainspotting charaters.

Deserving sequel to Trainspotting. Brings all the characters back (except for the dead ones). Witty and disturbing at the same time, i.e., typical Irvine Welsh.

What's to say? It's a banger. The old boys are back and at it again. But more mature and less. You see it coming, but it's fitting and well done.

If you read either Skagboys or Trainspotting you owe it to yourself to read Porno. It can get a bit tedious and redundant, but it shows the characters in their next phase of life. The very ending is brilliant.

Personally I love him. Highly recommended.

All too often I read a 'next in the series' book only to be disappointed but after reading 'Porno'- which Iread in a couple of hours- the second book to trainspotting I changed my mind. Porno takes the reader back to Leith with trainspotting's characters, older and wiser, it can only be said though for some and with additional characters and the re-appearance of an old face or two. Welsh's portrayal of the characters is fantastic, Simon 'sick boy' Williamson is still as determined as ever to make it rich no matter how many people the steps on to get to the top and the planning, plotting and scheming of sick boy and the addition of juicy new characters' antics and wit had me literally laughing out loud. Welsh is a genius; Will definitely be purchasing Skag Boys and every other book that Welsh has ever written. After reading both books I found myself saying 'pish' and 'likesay', this book really gets under your skin and once i started reading I just couldn't put it down.

I find it surprising that I can't keep on reading my book until I've obeyed your will to write something
