This is a great book about an incredible team. This story is really a microcosim of the story of the World Football League and I would recommend it to anybody who remembers and followed the WFL as I actually did in its first and only full season. The WFL came on with so much fanfare it looked like a can't miss league despite the dreadful economic times in which the league was started. In the early weeks the attendance in many cities was too good to be true and that was exactly the case once the story broke about all of the free tickets being distributed. The WFL had strong teams with good attendance in Chicago and LA but New York was a disaster. Having 2 teams fold and 2 others move in mid season killed the leagues credibility and is is a wonder they even got a second season off the ground. The league was underfunded and had too many lines of credit and not enough cash. There was some good football played in the WFL. Unfortunately the good football was overshadowed the off the field problems. The lack of a TV deal for the 1975 killed the league.

Must agree with the positive reviews of this book. Speck did an admirable job researching for this incredible story about Jack Pardee and the Florida Blazers. The team went through four cities, two primary owners, played 13 weeks without pay, had home games abruptly switched to road games, played before minuscule crowds amid rumors of abandoning Orlando, and still came only one point short in the championship game.Speck captures the spirited game action of the Blazers season in great detail. He brings the WFL alive. The players and coaches were determined strong individuals to play out the season amid continual broken promises and financial hardship. This was truly a love of the game story.This was a quick, very enjoyable read. A book to savor for any football fan, especially those who fondly recall the WFL.

Well written book on a long-forgotten football team. Highly recommend to fans of football.

Mark Speck did it again. The foremost authority on the World Football League does not disappoint with another gem. This is a must read for all football and sports fans.

Too short, too many game by game reviews and I paid way to much.

I'm a WFL fan and recall the league when it was formed. The stories from the various teams is quite fascinating. This book tells the story of a bunch of guys that stuck it out for each other. I'm sure the experiences of playing for this team made the players stronger in their lives as they moved on in life. A good read for any football fan, especially those who enjoy the weird and wacky.

This is an excellent read. For anyone who believes there was and is life beyond the NFL here's your proof. This book is written with such insight and detail you feel you are there. Now I'm waiting for the MOVIE!!!
