This thing ABSOLUTELY SHREDS!!! ...small amounts at a time... works great for regular shredding of mail and whatnot, however i had years of mail I had been waiting to shred and it definitely pushed this thing to the limit. got pretty warm but as long as you're not planning on doing a 4 hour nonstop shred session this thingholds up great for the cost. This shredder hits that balance and immediately felt more solid than the ultra cheap strip cut models. Here is the usage tip I wish Amazon spelled out clearly. Treat the eight sheet rating as a maximum, not a goal. For normal mail and mixed paper, five to six sheets at a time works best and keeps it running smoothly. Feed pages straight and give it a second between loads so the motor does not heat up. For credit cards, insert one at a time and let it finish fully before adding anything else. Doing this completely avoids jams and extends the life of the cutters, especially if you shred in short sessions instead of marathon runs. The minor downside is the waste bin fills faster than you expect because cross cut pieces are denser, and it is not whisper quiet. That said, for home use it has been reliable, easy to maintain, and far more secure than strip shredders. I love this shredder - it is a reliable workhorse! I purchased it over a year ago. It works very well, creates reliable small shreds. Easy to use, load and empty. I have been using it regularly to shred paper as an office tool, which any shredder could do, but the GREAT use I LOVE is turning cardboard into deep litter bedding for my chicken and rabbit shed and for the brooder for geese and chicks, and as mulch in the permaculture plot. Instead of buying wood shavings for the animals, and dumping my boxes in the recycle bin, I shred all the cardboard boxes from Amazon or any other online purchase, from groceries, etc, using this shredder. The chickens turn the shreds into fantastic compost. This item has more than paid for itself in saving me the cost of a year's worth of shavings. The width of the shredder opening is enough in width and height to allow for all but the thickest cardboard. I breakdown the boxes into strips and stuff them through the shredder. Even after shredding many boxes, there has only been once in the past year then the Overheat light came on asking for a break. Bottom line: I don't write very many reviews on Amazon, though I order items frequently. Something has to be remarkable for me to take the time to review. And THIS shredder is useful far above it's cost, reliable and serves well on my farm. Think about what you do with your cardboard and consider it if you have a garden or animals, or have friends who do... there are better options than putting your cardboard in a recycle bin where it MAYBE gets recycled, but sometimes is landfilled...

She is small but mighty! Great item, cut my old credit cards as well as multiple pages without hesitation. So reasonably priced for how well it works! Just unbox and put the machine directly on can which has a see through window to see level of shredded material. Not super noisy and it’s a stationary base.

Usually shredders do not live up-to their specifications- let alone exceeding them. But this one is an exception. It doesn’t just live up to the specification, it goes beyond that. I shredded 24 papers and this shredder did that comfortably (they were not cheap thin papers. They were good quality papers.) Now, I wanted to see the point at which the machine gives up. I tried 30 pages. Machine chewed may be 10-15% and jammed. In stead of sitting there with jammed feed, machine did auto reverse and helped me pull the bunch. I then tried with 28 pages but about 15% into shredding it jammed. I tried 26 pages. Machine was able to shred 26 pages. I have shredded thick cardboards and had no issues with jamming. Machine just chews and chews happily. I absolutely love this shredder!! Kudos to Amazon for making such a high quality product available. Now- coming to non shredding aspects *Noise* acceptable. It is actually lower than my insignia 6 sheet shredder. *Build quality* good . The slider button on top feels lil bit inaccurate and flimsy but it is not a deal breaker for me. Bin doesn’t go in effortlessly. 8 out of 10 times, I have to wiggle the bin a bit for it to go in. Castors are smooth. *Shred quality* Consistent. Shred size is about 3-3.5 cm x 4 mm (1.25 inches x 0.16 inches) which meets or exceeds its specification. Overall- an awesome shredder any household should have especially with cardboard usage.

Unit is well made and works well. t slices the paper into small pieces that would be almost impossible to put back together. I had to return it do to the receptacle having a large crack along the side. Amazon made it extremely easy to exchange it for a new one.
