Slap Ya Mama Cajun Gumbo Mix 5 oz

I'm a pretty serious home cook and generally make every thing from scratch. I was skeptical of this product, but gave it a try. Wow.....very pleasantly surprised at taste and consistency of final gumbo with next to no effort. Making a traditional roux is very time consuming. Dry roux works well, but still is an extra step. Plus....there's all the spice prep. This powder solves all. Now maybe someone from NOLA would scoff, but to me this get's me 90% taste with 10% of the effort. After test box....I ordered 2 more. Oh.....I do add okra and use shrimp and crab.

Tested several packaged mixes and this is the best for a quick and easy gumbo, close to my recipe from scratch.

Hoo wee this stuff is HOT! Best gumbo I've ever made! I prepared it according to package, but I wish I had added okra or celery. Definitely serve with rice and bread and a lot of water!

My family loves cajun cooking and I am not great at it. This Gumbo makes me look like a pro. So tasty and so easy to make. Win win.

It's a no for me. I had to doctor this up so much, I might as well have made it from scratch myself. It was super bitter. My advice is to add some sugar, peppers, onions, celery and still add some more spices, as well as a thickening agent. I worked it out, but I will not be buying this again.

Flavor was great and just right amount of spicy. Easy to make also. But more than I usually paid for a package of seasoning.

not like homemade, but it is a quick way to make a small gumbo

This was so easy to make gumbo with instead of spending about 45 minutes making the start. I did add stuff to it such as celery, onions, chicken, shrimp, but my husband also likes it just as it is with only chicken added.

The only way ima get authentic gumbo out here in Canada

EXPENSIVE but ok, will try making my own version as its just too much money
