Equador Coffeel
Quality inferior to other Equador coffees I've had. Beans looked dry,and taste bitter.

Tastes more of nuts than coffee
This is one weird coffee. I usually love Ecuadorean coffees, but this one (or at least this particular batch) was disappointing and distinctly odd. I'm very careful when grinding coffee beans, and ground these just as I do with other whole bean coffees, for the same amount of time, and pausing frequently to be sure the beans don't overheat in the grinder. These beans ground very unevenly, leaving some grainy bits, while the rest was too powdery, even though I ground them for the same amount of time as I do other coffee beans. So when I poured water over them, the larger bean bits rose to the surface and clung to the top of the filter, while the more powdery grind settled at the bottom and made for a very slow drip process. The resulting taste was also unusual, tasting more like nuts than coffee. I know that most Ecuadorean coffees are low acid, which I appreciate, but that doesn't explain the unusual taste. I recently bought some small-batch Ecuadorean beans at Trader Joe's, and they were delicious, as well as half the price of this coffee. Apparently, a lot of other Trader Joe's shoppers must have thought so as well, and the limited supply sold out quickly. In splurging on this coffee, I was hoping for something of similar quality, though I didn't expect it to taste exactly the same. The roast on these beans was also very uneven, with many of the beans looking like bits of charcoal, and I had to pick through and toss them so they wouldn't make a bitter brew. On the plus side, I can say that the resulting coffee was smooth, though not robust, and probably required more than the usual measurement. I'm reluctant to return items unless they're out and out useless, but after brewing this coffee this morning, I was tempted to do so. But I'll mix these beans with some more full-flavored beans that grind up properly, and use them up that way. Otherwise, this was just a rather expensive fail. If you don't mind an uneven grind, having to use more coffee than normal, and prefer a brew that tastes more like ground nuts instead of ground coffee, this might make you happy.

Best coffee ever
This is quite possibly the best cup of coffee I have ever had. Well-balanced, sort of nutty, and I actually enjoyed drinking it cold. I usually end up drinking my coffee that way with two toddlers, but I don't usually enjoy it. I also appreciate knowing that I am helping to support the families in Ecuador that grow these beans.
