Description

Cradle of Filth have achieved a reputation for controversy and shock virtually unparalleled in rock music over recent years. Yet very little is known about how this strange collective came to be and where exactly it is they’re going. Using interviews with the band and those very close to them, alongside previously unseen footage, From the Cradle to the Grave presents a stunning documentary film, getting to grips with what this band are all about. Completing the film with fan interviews, journalists’ opinions intercut with horror film imagery, this riveting expose cannot fail to capture the band’s massive fan base as well as those with a casual interest.

Unofficial but informative - recommended for fans.

Yes this is an unofficial documentary by a company that chucked out loads of these about the same time on various heavy metal bands. Yes there is no Cradle of Filth music on it (but I have it all anyway so what the hell - play one of their CDs in the background if you want to!) Oh and there's not much in the way of early live footage (which I WOULD have liked) and you only get the one 70 minute documentary (the BBC 'living with the enemy' documentary would have made a nice extra!). This all accounts for the many negative reviews and cries of cash in (which it partly is). There's the criticisms out the way (and the reason for dropping two stars). So why give it a full three?Well, this does feature some excellent archive footage and interviews of band members from the early days (including Dani Filth so allay your fears) and for me it really capture the spirit of the band at that time. This is good to refresh the minds of long time fans and enlighten newer fans. And as a long time fan I still learnt a lot about the early influences on the band. For example I discovered Nigel Wingrove (I didn't know his photo shoots were used for the early albums and you get to see a lot of his 'Redeemer' era work) and Jean Rollin (thanks to a clip from 'Le Viol du Vampire'). So I'm glad to have bought it and just as importantly I will be watching it again.P.S. The current band tell you not to bother with this, but then they don't get any money from it!

I'm not a huge fan of Cradle of Filth but I still found this dvd incredibly interesting. I've always had a mild interest in how heavier bands like this start, and where they get inspiration from. It's a well presented and researched documentary that I found insightful and interesting.
