Is this suitable for a inspiron 15/5518 laptopnplease

I don't have any experience of using an Inspiron but if it has a USB port then this drive should work with it okay.

Does anyone know whether this will work with a Surface Pro 6?

That would depend on what the USB voltage / current limits were on the Surface Pro. I run mine via one of the USB3.0 ports on a Dell Laptop. Unless M/S have put limits on their Surface USB ports, I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I make no guarantees of course

My dvd drive on the laptop was disabled by downloading windows 8 (driver removed from registry) will this work without the missing driver?

Hi It is plug and play device so I think yes. I recommend to update version on windows to avoid disappointment. Hope it help

Will this disc drive work with XPS 9710 model?

I have a 7390 and it works fine, no setup issues at all. Connects with a USBC, I can't see any reason why it would not work with a 9710, but I have no direct hands-on knowledge.
