Can this be used with charcoal instead of wood?

Yes we use charcoal to cook then add wood for a small evening fire.

Where does the ash go when wood is burning?

The ash disappears when the wood is completely burned.

What material is the actual firepit made from? The grill grate is 304 stainless steel but there's no mention of the metal used to make the firepit?

Looks like stainless to me. Have used it a few times. With no issues no sign of rusting. Very pleased with the fire pit.

Compact, sturdy & efficient

Great product. Puts off a lot of heat. Burns very efficiently, wood burns completely very little to any waste. Grill is sturdy and flexible. Well built, easy to use and clean. Highly recommend.
