Yes it has a remote so you can adjust speed & direction of train and it does have a steam feature

What is the quality of this product? I want to buy it to put under the Christmas tree.

It is decent, however, it's entirely made of plastic and not like the sturdier metal trains from the old days. We were more impressed once we saw it put together and running around the track. The main concern was the plastic around the battery lid looked like it could break easily.

Are there extra part available? Daughter lost the plug foe water tank.

I had similar experience, ours was a missing pair of wheels. Since I didn’t buy it from a third party seller, Amazon can only do replacement/refund, and can’t send or replace missing or broken parts. It was easy. I contacted Amazon for replacement. I got the qr ode on my phone, waited for the replacement product, then dropped the toy train to Amazon location close by. On my case, I went to Whole Foods.
