The future of chainsaws
My first cordless electric after many years of petrol and mains electric chainsawing (glad to have THAT experience behind me!). You have to get used to slightly less grunt than a comparable-weight petrol chainsaw, and a delay of half a second when you press the trigger. Also there is a safety cut-out if the blade snags for any reason, including expecting it to do more than it has the power left for - probably no bad thing. It's still quite heavy and makes more noise than mains electric, but it's much quieter than a petrol saw. But the main difference in operation is the blissful silence as soon as you take your finger off the trigger, and the lack of fumes and vibration. You don't have to carry petrol around either. It's not for serious forestry or tree-surgery but for my purposes - felling small trees up to ~8" and logging up branches and trunks to about 12", but mostly much smaller, it works great, so I don't think I will ever go back to petrol. The 4 Ah battery lasts me about 30-40 minutes which is when I need to stop cutting anyway and do some splitting and carrying, and recharges fairly quickly - but I would NOT go for a smaller capacity unless you have a spare to keep on charge. If you have a whole day's work to do some distance from mains power, then cordless won't be a good solution of course, but for my purposes it's perfect. All this said, the USP of the Oregon, which none of its similarly priced or more expensive rivals have, is the self-sharpening system. This involves a totally new chain design which I was very sceptical about; it cuts with the top of the cutter like a chisel, rather than scooping out the timber with a C-shaped gouge like a traditional chainsaw. That means its possible to use the motor to run the cutters against a sharpening stone on a suitable jig, instead of filing each cutter and height bar separately. The system is so effective that Oregon sell it as a £50+ accessory for other saws, but here it is already built in to the saw. You just squeeze a lever for while the engine is running and what used to be a tedious 20-minute job is done in less than 5 seconds, and more accurately than I can do my hand! I have not found that the blade needs sharpening any more often than a conventional one, it cuts just as well and can be resharpened more times before requiring replacement. I will reserve final judgment till I know just how long it lasts and how much the replacement chain plus stone costs, but so far (after one year's use) the indications are very positive. This saw is twice the price of a comparable petrol saw, but much cheaper to run and more pleasant to use. The self-sharpening system clinches it for me and makes it worth the money.

Excellent Saw for all Medium to Low load logging.
A truly excellent saw.Instructions were really annoying and unclear, YouTube has a very good video tutorial.Saw got through 12” willow trunk and cut up half the tree (about 100 logs) in a hard hours of work. Chain high quality and battery quickly recharged. Early days but excellent so far!

Simple to use.
I’ve never had a chainsaw before. I bought it to cut up logs for our new wood burner. It was easy to assemble; the YouTube video and instruction book complimented each other. On a full charge it whipped through 8 - 10 inch ash logs that were a couple of years old. It’s light and easy to manoeuvre, does a nice clean cut, and seems to keep going with pretty much the same power until the battery suddenly runs out. The chain is easy to tension, and the sharpener seems to work. I think you have to take the chain and bar off after each use to clean it properly- as a tyro I didn’t realise how sawdust gets everywhere. But the cover is very easy to remove and put back.My only gripe is that the 4Ah battery doesn’t last as long as I expected from the YouTube reviews I saw - hence 4 stars not 5. But for cutting up enough logs to keep the wood burner going for a few days it’s fine. To do much more than an hour of work I will need an additional 6Ah battery.Definitely recommend.

For the novice chain-saw user this is brilliant
My experience with chain saws isn't good. Several years ago, I came close to killing myself with one. We live next to woodland which isn't managed and the owner said we could cut back some of the trees that were starting to encroach over our fence line. With some reluctance, my wife allowed me to buy one of these. It's so easy to use, the self-sharpening works well, it's light, with a decent battery life (I reckon I can take down three reasonable sized trees and cut them into logs before having to recharge). We sat on the patio yesterday in the sun and commented on how much extra light we're getting and how spacious it all now feels so, it's been a great investment

Disappointed
Very upset. Didnt come with battery as it should have been included. Didnt get a chance to open and check all the items in the box until after we moved house. After death of my elderly parents in law after caring for them. Now 2 year warrants gone.

Heavy
Much heavier than the petrol equivalent. I can only use it for logging not for felling. The 4v battery doesn't last anything like my expectations. 30 mins of continuous at most.

Very easy to assemble, lot better than expected
There's nothing to dislike about this saw . Comes with everything and being used to petrol chainsaws its cuts alot bigger stuff then expected. Will say look for a 2nd battery at lot places as can be found around £105. 00 brand new , and oregon original. Great product

Impressive
Great chainsaw. It’s very quiet which is handy to keep the neighbours happy. I’ve cut some serious wood using this from ash to oak. It can handle large logs however it eats the battery in which it run down quick. The self sharpening tool is brilliant and has already saved having to buy chain replacements. Overall I’m very pleased with this. Easy to use and set up.
