I would not be worried about the face, which is 44mm. I bought this for my father and the strap needed new holes as he got older. It is not really made for a small wrist. The watch itself is great, you could get a new band

Q: how do you remove the back to change battery?

Based upon the picture of the ones I looked up (I returned the one I bought) This watch has a pop off watch back. Around the 1 o clock position there is a lip for the proper tool to pop of the back. After changing the battery, which may or may not be easy, the cover needs to be put back on. A case back press (proper tool) may be needed ! If not used you might not get the back on, If you are not prepared to do the job properly, have it replaced . Just call around for prices. They vary
