Ozeri 4x3razor pedometer
I have not used any other pedometers, so I cannot compare this one with others. That said, my husband & I each got one and we're both using them. They have worked wonderfully since we got them a bit over 2 months ago. We've found that this pedometer is quite reliable and accurate for tracking steps. Early on, we 'tested' it almost constantly to learn how it responds (as others have noted, for example, it only begins counting after 5-10 regular step movements, thereby avoiding counting random non-steps. Once it does begin, the 5-10 are added right in and it continues from there). Now I hardly give it a thought during the day, unless it is to check on how far I've gotten to my goal and how much I still need to do.The 4x3razor pedometer is fabulously discreet. I usually wear mine on the waistband of my pants, w/ the hem of my top to cover it, but I can even wear it attached to the small waistband of my (women's) underwear, underneath dresses that have no other type of convenient attaching point. It's no problem at all, as the profile is smooth enough that it doesn't cause noticeable bulges. The remarkable thing about using this pedometer, we have found, is that it is FUN. One of us was typically fairly active and fit, the other...less so. For BOTH of us, however, seeing the steps add up is surprisingly gratifying and motivating. Although we need to make an effort to reach or to average 10,000 steps a day, with this pedometer we actually *want* to get up and add on more steps, for the pleasure of seeing the tally increase. Suddenly the trip outside to take out the compost or the trash is not as onerous as it used to be. And where we used to pass on walking downtown for an errand, now we're happy for the built-in opportunity to add more steps. This is just as we had read from others: although our clothes are fitting noticeably better (and some things now fit again that haven't for a while), it's the change in how we FEEL that is the most remarkable. It feels GREAT to move around & go walking - and we are now *both* motivated to do so!This pedometer was one of the best investments that we may have ever made. For just $30 apiece, it is having a profound and positive effect on our health in a way that other (and more expensive) programs, diets, gyms, etc, simply did not. If you know someone who has a genuine desire to be/get more fit but who hates exercise and can never stay with an exercise program, GET ONE OF THESE PEDOMETERS FOR THEM! We plan to give some as gifts.I highly, HIGHLY recommend this pedometer to anyone.(FWIW, I also ordered a used copy of the book "Pedometer Walking: Stepping Your Way to Health, Weight Loss, and Fitness" when I ordered the pedometers. We probably will turn back to that book at some point, but so far we've only read the first chapter--about 2 months ago. That was already enough to get us going.)UPDATE Sept. 24th 2013: Pedometer is still working, still accurate (just over 4 months, now). The waistband clip on mine broke, and I contacted the company about getting it replaced. They were happy to help; they sent me a new clip, no charge. I understand the frustration of those folks who received 'lemons' - as some of the reviews clearly indicate - but I'd try exchanging a defective one for another. The company is quite responsive.Be sure, by the way, to either use the waistband clip together with the additional lanyard clip or else consider putting double-sided tape on the back of the the pedometer when it's in the waistband clip (I have not done that, but I like the idea, which someone else posted). As I've learned from others who are experienced users of pedometers, it's not only this brand that can and will fall from its clip. If you rely solely on the waistband clip, you are courting trouble.UPDATE Nov. 12th, 2013: Changed the battery today for the first time, just shy of six months since purchase. The display had faded a bit these last couple of days, to where it was tricky to read today (but still possible). Working great again w/ the new battery. Also, fyi, while I was without the belt clip a while back, I learned that I can simply wear the pedometer in a watch pocket (the tiny one inside a front pocket on many traditional styles of jeans) or a close-fitting pocket. Haven't tried it in a loose pocket. Also, I can even tuck the pedometer right into my underwear waistband, against my skin (silver side against skin, display side facing fabric). In BOTH of those cases, I still attach the lanyard to the waistband or else to a belt loop. On a hot day, I learned that tucking btwn skin & waistband is not a good idea if you're sweaty. In case the orientation may have played a role: I had also on that occasion put the display side against skin and the silver side facing fabric. Since then, the last numeral of my steps display (ie., the ones digit) now shows incompletely but is still legible as to which numeral it is. Ditto the hours numeral of the time display. It's been that way on my pedometer for many weeks now, and it's not a problem for me. Overall: still lovin' it. We're both still happily using ours, and they continue to inspire us to move. Meanwhile, increased steps and movement have become a more natural part of our habits - brushing teeth, etc.

An outstanding pedometer
In the past, I've used many mechanical pedometers. The durability of those pedometers is less than desiring as I have to constantly replace them. I went online and researched the different types of pedometers, read many reviews and finally decided on the Ozeri 4X3 Razor. The price is reasonable and it has many good reviews. The pedometer arrives fast and I was surprised on how thin it was. My other pedometers have twice the thickness.Setting it up was very simple. I wasn't sure of my step length though. I first set it up to 2.5 as recommended by the many reviews but after testing a few times on a treadmill, I lowered it to 2.25. At 5' 4" tall, my step length is not too long. I would have like it if I could set it in 0.05 increments, but 2.25 is close enough. I walk on the treadmill a lot so have done some statistical analysis of what the pedometer tells me and what the treadmill reports.I've note down the information after having walked 1.05 miles on the treadmill at different incremental speeds. At 3.6mph and 3.7mph, the Ozeri pedometer is almost right on. As I increase the speed of the treadmill, I take larger steps so the accuracy go down, but not by much as noted below. The only discrepancy is when I ran at 5.5mph. My strides are longer so the Ozeri did not count correctly. I have to note that this pedometer is not made for joggers, but for walkers. It does its counting and statistics calculation extremely well in the latter.Brisk walking (time, miles per hour, steps counted, miles reported, calories burned)* 17min 45sec, 3.6mph, 2450 steps, 1.04 mi, 104.6 cal* 17min 14sec, 3.7mph, 2452 steps, 1.04 mi, 102.2 cal* 16min 50sec, 3.8mph, 2339 steps, 1.00 mi, 97.7 cal* 17min 06sec, 3.8mph, 2349 steps, 1.00 mi, 93.4 cal* 16min 20sec, 3.9mph, 2391 steps, 1.02 mi, 104.3 cal* 16min 00sec, 4.0mph, 2289 steps, 0.97 mi, 100.6 calJogging* 11m 40s, 5.5mph, 1566 steps, 0.67 mi, 55.7 calAnother thing I noticed is that if I walk slowly and infrequently and although the pedometer would report many steps by the end of the day, the calorie count would be low. It reflects my infrequent steps. I could take 10,000 steps a day and burn less than 200 calories! Where as if my steps were sustained within a short period of time, the calorie count would be much higher. The same 10,000 sustained and continuous steps would show around 400+ calories burned! This pedometer wants you to move. What I like about the Ozeri 4X3 Razor:+ Counts silently+ Counts even when in sleep mode (no display)+ Memory retains up to 7 days of steps+ Calories-burned count is differentiated between infrequent stops and sustained steps+ Accurately counts distance walked (provided that you set your stride length correctly)+ Does not matter where you wore it (be it pocket, belt, over neck), it counts+ If you don't wear a watch, you can use it to check the time+ Durable... it probably fell a dozen time when it slips out of my hand or when it fell out of the belt clip, but it keeps on countingWhat I didn't care for:- I wear it on my belt a lot and sometimes when I run, it would slip out of the belt clip and fall to the ground (my solution to this is to stick a little bit of double sided tape on the back area between the clip and the pedometer).- I would like to be able to set a "reset" time as I sometimes still exercise after midnight when it resets to 0 for the following day.- I would like to be able to set the stride increments of "0.05" instead of "0.25"I read some reviews on how easily the face of the pedometer is scratched. I solved this problem by trimming a cheap cell phone LCD screen protector and sticking it onto the Ozeri. Not a single scratch since I did it.It has been roughly 40 days since I purchased and used the Ozeri. So far, it counted 520128 steps! I bring it with me everywhere and have challenged myself to walk as much as possible. You would be surprise on how much more you would walk if you give yourself a goal everyday. Overall, I love this little unit and would definitely recommend it.--- Update 9/17/2013 ---Just an update on my Ozeri pedometer. As of 9/17/2013, the pedometer is no longer working. I've owned it for a little more than a year. I guessed one too many drops earlier in its life did it in. The pedometer still works but the LCD is no longer displaying information. There are a bar here and there, but nothing that can be read. It was great while it worked. As a reminder for others who walk/jog a lot using this pedometer; if you use a belt clip, I suggest you add a little piece of double stick tape in between the belt clip and the pedometer to prevent it from sliding out, causing premature malfunction like it did mine.

Forty day flop
I got 40 days of use before the display became unreadable. I hoped it was a weak battery issue, but a new battery (tested out at 3.120 vdc) made no difference. In the 40 days I was able to get some sense of the unit. I've used an Omron HJ-112 since May, 2011 (on my second unit there, as the first lost button functionality after perhaps three years). Over the 40 days when I wore both, the Ozeri overwhelmingly counted more steps than the Omron (~38 days out of 40), so it was somewhat surprising on the occasions when the Ozeri came in under the Omron. It appears the Ozeri has a lower minimum steps threshold than the Omron, which seems to require a minimum of 7 steps before acknowledging movement. Perhaps the biggest drawback for me is that the Ozeri memory only keeps total steps, calories burned, and miles, so if I wanted to log any of the other indicators I would have to do it before midnight. Additionally, the buttons to cycle through the Ozeri display were difficult to work one-handed. In cold weather it would be a real challenge even with two hands. I can't comment on behaviour when you get to the 999,999 cumulative steps--I was due to get there today, but the display was unreadable so I couldn't verify that the unit stops recording at that point.Despite reading that customer service is responsive I have my doubts that I'll pursue sending this unit back. More likely I'll go with the Omron unit that supersedes the HJ-112 (which I wish hadn't been discontinued). The reviews I studied before giving this unit a shot were promising, but after 40 days my assessment is that this unit isn't the one for me.

OK, but battery life is disappointing
Edited to remove a star and update my reviewI started using this September 6. On the evening of October 2, the screen wouldn't come up. I tried a soft reset and a hard reset. The latter brought up the display but then it went away. The unit ships with a battery, so I replaced it and I seem to be up and running now. I've ordered more batteries. My disappointment is that I had well under 300,000 steps in that time. I knew I'd have to hard reset at 999,999 so was planning to replace the battery at that point. Less than one month for the battery (and no indication it was failing) makes the cost of this unit far higher than I originally planned for. It could be the battery or the brand of battery it was shipped with. If that is the case, and the replacement battery or the new brand I ordered last longer, I'll leave this at a 4 star review. If I continue to have to change batteries any more often than every 999,999 steps (roughly 3 months in my case) then I will remove more stars. I only look at the step count about 3 times a day so it isn't as if I'm constantly asking the screen to be on.*** Original Review ***It works as advertised. It works way better than I expected for the price.I used it to replace a fitbit since I no longer want my data being controlled by a company. This meets my needs perfectly. It even tucks into my bra as the fitbit did so I can wear it all the time, even when I don't have a pocket or am not carrying a purse (I used my phone as a pedometer for a bit but I don't carry a purse in the house so that didn't capture my around-home steps.)I've only had it a few weeks so I can't comment on longevity but at this point I'm very pleased.

A great tool.
I purchased two of these pedometers around Christmas. One was a gift for myself and the other for a family member. The functions are easy to set and the pedometers are very accurate. The mode button is well placed for easy access and the screen is clear and easy to read. The screen enters a power saving mode and stops displaying your steps etc., but continues to count your steps. By simply pressing the mode button, the information is displayed once again. So far, the belt clip and lanyard clip are sturdy and are holding up well, but we have only been using them for 14 days. One of the pedometers was received out of the box with a dead battery. However, Ozeri provides an extra battery in each package. Changing the battery can be a bit tricky because the battery slot can easily be pushed back in too far. When this happened, we then had to unscrew the back cover to access the battery slot and realign it. Ozeri provides a tiny screw driver in the package. So far, we are very happy with the quality and ease of use of our Ozeri 4x3 razor digital pedometers. These pedometers are extremely motivating personal tools as they truly reveal how few steps/how far we actually move, despite regularly exercising. Since being shocked at the end of the first day of using them when we saw that one of us only took 4200 steps and the other only 2900, we have been following the (at minimum) 10,000 step goal while continuing our regular exercise. We already feel, and look better. We're also more mindful of our activity level and can avoid prolonged periods of sitting because the pedometer tangibly presents how many or how few steps we have actually taken at each given minute of each day. They reset to zero at midnight.

I love the pedometer itself
I love the pedometer itself, it works well and is easy to use. I am not happy with the clip it comes with and for this reason I have given it a lower rating. I have lost the pedometer twice when it slipped out the clip. I found the pedometer the first time and the unit was working well, however the second time I lost it I was not so lucky. The second time the pedometer slipped out of the clip I found it the next day but it was too late as it was damaged by the outside elements. I did not have this pedometer for more than a couple of weeks and felt for the price I paid the security of the clip should have been better.

Maybe I just got a LEMON?
Waited 8 days for this to arrive only to have it NOT WORK! I have no idea how many steps I put in pacing waiting for it to be delivered in anticipation. Very disappointing to say the least, bit shocking really after reading all the positive reviews. I would enter my step stride measurement and it kept going back to the default set step stride measurement. I set it so many times it was crazy! Although I did burn quite a few calories in frustration and finger movements. Also, it would not keep accurate step counts. Sometimes my 10 steps registered as 1 step (not a good thing) other times my 1 step registered as 20 or more steps (little silver lining?). Malfunctioning step count defeats it's whole purpose that's for sure. I tried replacing the battery and it continued which is too bad. I have shipped it back to Amazon today. Looking at a different Pedometer. This unit I received is probably better at tracking travel miles by courier then steps by this human being. Maybe I just got a Lemon Or NOT.
