Low Quality, High Price makes this knife UNWORTHY. Here is why.
Short Review:AVOID. High price, low quality makes this item UNWORTHY for use and potentially DANGEROUS! There are MANY other products out there under this same price range and with superior specifications that provide significantly better mileage for your hard-earned cash than this item. I honestly cannot recommend this item at this price range, and would direct you to nearly ANY cold steel (TAIWANESE-made) product as being superior. If you are merely planning on putting this on a shelf to show off how poorly made a product can be, this is the product for you! But if you plan on actually using this product, BE CAREFUL! Especially of injury!Long Review:Oh... how the mighty have fallen. This review hurts me to write. I literally had this item in my cart for YEARS. Waiting for it to become 'just that tiny bit more' affordable so I could purchase it. When I put it in my cart years ago, they wanted $90 some odd dollars for it. Couple of years go by, I watched as it fluctuated in the mid $80 dollar range. Finally, several weeks ago, it just dropped shy under $80 into the $70 dollar range, and so I now find myself in this unfortunate predicament. Lucky me. I have been eyeing this item for years. I invested a lot of saliva looking at it from afar... in my cart. Read some stuff on the internet about its history. Even watched some videos. When I ordered it, I was excited to get it. Then the package arrived, and now I sit here... disappointed.Seriously... I was so ready to love this item... but it is simply a low quality, roughly and carelessly made item being sold for a very high price. Knives from Sheffield used to hold some sort of respect... in the past. Now, it is just another glaringly sad example of how our Asian counterparts are far exceeding and surpassing even our older, more established cousins in manufacturing...First, the sheath. This sheath was designed so poorly, it almost feels like an intentional act of sabotage. It is actually DANGEROUS. The button down closure which is supposed to hold the knife in the sheath if you ever take a tumble in the wilderness? It is positioned too high up (like the old Ka-bars) and is extremely loose fitting. The retention strap is up towards the rear handle of the knife, not by the guards. The knife WILL rise up with the retention strap buttoned closed. Three inches of the blade can become exposed while the knife is STILL IN THE SHEATH. You DO have the potential to cut yourself on it's edge. So, BE CAREFUL. This knife can still be DANGEROUS when it is in an assumed "SAFE" position. The design is... highly flawed and even somewhat confusing in this day and age. Given the total liability involved with such a design, I am surprised they have not done something to fix it yet. Next: There is no strip of leather or "spacer" to buffer the edge of the knife to the sewn threads of the sheath, and the sewn threads are exactly placed where the edge of the knife slips in and out of the sheath! Sure, there are rivets. But when the knife is sharpened, it will simply cut through those sewn strings one day, and it will only be the rivets holding your knife cover together. The sharpened heat treated blade will begin to rub up against those fun little tin rivets and... unhappiness. So, again: BE CAREFUL! Do not expect the sheath to last long if you are ever planning on using this knife. Do not blindly rely upon it. Always visually inspect the knife at all times before placing your hands upon it. DO NOT feel safe that you have this particular sheath covering your knife! But... even that is "ok" for now, because the knife comes smashingly DULL! Also, the sheath is fashioned to hang on the LEFT side of your belt. It is not a "universal" sheath. If you must have this knife hanging on your right, you would have to carry it edge facing forward (with this sheath)! Anyway, I purchased this knife... well, for the knife. Not the sheath. But I DO wish that the sheath was significantly better at this price point. I have purchased cheaper knives that had much more intelligently designed sheaths which was much more appreciated. If you plan on keeping this knife with this sheath, be aware of all the dangers that come with it. You will be "living on the edge!" … sorry for the bad pun. Now, on to the knife. It comes dull. Mine is so dull, I could probably grab the blade as if it were a handle and hammer at something without injury. You will need to sharpen it if you want to use it as a knife. Which now brings you to: the edge is not ground "straight" or flat - it is wavy. It is an improperly grounded edge (as if someone without sharpening experience just decided to sharpen a knife on a grinding wheel - freehand, with only their non-dominant hand because their other hand was changing the channels on a television they were primarily concentrating on...), which basically means: If you do NOT know how to sharpen a knife, you should: avoid this knife! If you DO know how to sharpen a knife, then you should: avoid this knife! It is A LOT of work to straighten out an edge like this right out of the box! On top of that, my knife tip/point came... rounded. Maybe somewhere along the manufacturing process, they felt that sharp knives with pointy tips were... too dangerous or something... That is the blade. Now the handle. The handle scales are not fitted at all. There is literally a GAP between the metal of the knife tang and the wooden scale. I do not mean like how the other reviewers were saying that the wooden handle scales were not "flush" to the tang. I mean: there is a GAP-for-things-to-get-stuck-in between the tang of the knife and the wooden handle scale. What that basically translates to - is the longevity of the knife. It will rust from the inside out! If you cut meat with this, get blood, sand, wood chips or dirt in this... if you ever plan to WASH this knife with WATER - you should be observant of this additional factor. Good thing I didn't plan to do any of those things! Or did I?There is a "guard" poorly welded on this item. Again, the gaps between it and the knife itself is quite significant. I can see through to the other side - as I can on my handle scales. It is like a theme with this knife. Things will get lost in there and begin to rust your knife from the inside. Not too cool. The wood handle scale of my knife shows surface cracks. Yours might not. Just remember, it is not as tough as it seems. This just points to the Quality Control of this particular company and it's products. In fact, I feel there were MANY overlooked production errors on this knife. So many, that I actually suspect that this was a "factory second" or they just fired their entire QC team. If this knife were to be brought around and shown as a sampling of what Sheffield of England could do with a knife, it would make their company LOSE value in terms of credibility! Asians would laugh. Unfortunately, these are quite standard with these knives... meaning, they are meant to come like this.As stated earlier, nearly ANY, made-in-Taiwan knife produced by cold steel in this size will come cheaper and far superior in terms of fit, finish, function and WARRANTY than this laughable, sloppy, nonsensical product. Am I returning it? Nah. I'm thinking of keeping it. This is a perfect sample for my children to learn exactly what to look for in a LOW quality product which tries to pass itself off as something respectable. It is a way to teach them how to respect their customers in the future as intelligent consumers and to teach them about something more than just seeing what a company can get away with. Things like, trust, credibility, respectable branding... The people at Sheffield of England have in many ways, stopped respecting themselves by turning out this type of poorly manufactured product, and I'm embarrassed for them. But this is still an ideal opportunity to teach people about what a failing brand looks like, and to remind people of constantly keeping up with better innovation.Anyway, I have included photos for your own intelligent judgment illustrating my points.I buy these items with my own pennies. If they have helped you at all (even if you are someone at Sheffield - regarding the improvement of your product) please share the love! It takes me a bit of time to type these up, and I don't do it for the cart loads of money that Amazon wheels to my door every hour. So click on that "helpful" icon/button/what-ever is it these days so I can feel better about myself and this broken product!

Greatest Bugout/Survival Knife
This is the knife of my dreams! I wanted that "one knife" to do everything from skinning game, cooking, to processing wood and self defense in a bugout/Survival situation. This thing is a beast. It's definitely got some weight. Brass rivets hold the handle to the steel, and the guard is even spot welded to prevent wiggling that have been mentioned in past reviews. The blade blade is a solid 1/4" thick and the phosphate finish will give it some added protection. A few things that could be improved are:-Sheath sucks, but if you order the polyester sheath from Ka Bar for the BK7, it fits perfectly and is a huge upgrade.-Blade came dull and had to sharpen it-Handles peak slightly past the metal. Had to file them flush since I'm a little OCD.Otherwise this is an amazing bushcraft knife.

Now this is a knife
Now this is a knife, you can take with it you can put on with it I can use it for a fire and And you can even use it as a throwing tool and lastly you can cut with it. The knife sheath needs a lot of work the knife is a great quality will not fall apart it’s made to last may take a while to put an edge on it but after that it’s a great knife little on the heavy side but you’ll get used to that

Grip is proud on tang, will cause hotspots.
Grips not ground to be flush on tang, a quick way to grow a crop of blisters. Should not have to use a belt sander to get good handle fit.Blade is exactly what I expected.

Wanted one since the early to mid 1980's.
Back in the early to mid 1980's this knife came out and I wanted to get one. Well, I was young, in the military and couldn't justify buying one, but after all these years, I finally got one. It's stout and it can be customized to whatever I need and there's no chance of breaking this thing with rugged use. I can sharpen this thick slab of steel to the level I want and the grips need some fitting. The sheath is wonderfully appalling and screams for replacement or work. This knife will last generations.

HEAVY DUTY KNIFE
HEAVY DUTY knife. You will definitely get a lifetime of use out of this knife. Quality parkerized finish, 7mm thick blade. This is not an everyday carry type tool. With sheath it weighs 1 lb. 6.8oz. I love this knife. I have put it through hellish work and it still is undamaged. You will not be disappointed if you need a good bushcraft/woods knife. One drawback: the sheath, although leather and stoutly made, is a leftie and does not hold the knife securely. The knife would still be well worth the price even without a sheath.

Heavy and Solid
If you're looking for a collector knife this is not the one. this thing is heavy and rough around the edges, the wood handle is a bit oversize and the sheath is too big for the knife, I actually tried the knife backwards and it still goes right inn. the sheath is ok, or what they say"better than nothing", but I would actually cry if I saw "Made in USA" on the sheath. The knife is heavy duty and solid I like it.

My favorite knife.
I bought this as a shorter less cumbersome alternative to carrying a full sized machete in the field. It does everything I ask of it and then some. It sharpens easily and holds a keen edge, even after a couple weeks of heavy chopping and wood splitting. The blade is thick and provides excellent momentum when chopping. I can do tasks with this that I would normally reserve for a hatchet. My only complaint is the sheath, it was made left handed and is a pretty flimsy P.O.S. I plan on replacing it as soon as possible with a custom made leather scabbard worthy of such a great knife.

A good knife project
While this knife does have some flaws, it's greatness still shines through. Some people might look at this knife and see flaws that make for a terrible purchase: The handle scales have a gap around the tang, the blade's powder coating went right to the edge, making it dull out of the box... etc. But think of this knife as an unfinished masterpiece in the making! Once you get this blade, you can (have to) sharpen the edge, giving you an opportunity to profile it any way you like. The handle is hardwood, so with a little sanding and polishing, it can take on a customized grip made exactly for your hand. Once you have put a little work into the blade, it is a Five-Star knife to be sure, with similar features and heft to a Becker BK-2, it just doesn't arrive that way. Imagine this as an opportunity to create a perfect heavy survival knife with the characteristics you want, and the personalized touch that can only come from customizing it yourself.

Magnifico cuchillo
