100% totally disappointed
Update: changing my rating from a 2 to a 1. This is a total p.o.s. which I plan to throw in the garbage when I get off the computer. Bottom drawer won't stay on guides. Top drawer opens inexplicably on its ow. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!Bought this for my husband's home office, and went for the budget product. You get what you pay for, which is literally a box full of (fake) wood pieces and screws. Nothing is pre-assembled, including the tracks that the drawers run on. It takes hours to put together. I will say that it is a good looking piece of furniture once you (finally) finish. I love the size, weight, and appearance of it. It doesn't function well as a file cabinet, though. As soon as we loaded the files and pulled out the drawer, the bottom collapsed, separating from the side panels and forcing the drawer off track. I think we probably put too much weight in it. Don't make that mistake. I am hoping that we can somehow screw/nail/wood glue the thing back together so that it can at least store a few files out of the way. Pay the money and get a real file cabinet if that is what you're looking for. This is a decent looking piece of furniture but doesn't serve the dual purpose well.

Beautiful as a home furniture piece, but a file cabinet!
It is very heavy - recommend assembly before moving (as you can move the frame and drawers separately); VERY heavy in the box! Beautiful piece of furniture in the home - does not look like a file cabinet - yet has plenty of space for hanging files and hanging rails adjust for different sizes. The locks to ensure only one drawer at a time can open were wonky and awkward but I just took that out and it’s fine.Love that you can adjust drawer angle fairly easily (so they can close properly) without removing the rail entirely - that is a very nice feature!Overall a very nice sturdy attractive piece of furniture!

Nice and functional piece. Excellent Customer service.
I've had the Carson Forge Lateral File for six months now and I'm very pleased with it. The style is exactly what I was looking for and so far it seems sturdy and does the job.It took some time to put together and was a little tricky at a few steps, but I more or less expected that for this kind of furniture. I did run into a problem getting one of the drawers in correctly and one of the slide rails basically came apart in the process. At first I was quite annoyed, but I called Sauder and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. I reached a real person very quickly and they couldn't have been more helpful or courteous. I was sent all the replacement parts I needed, as well as some extra pieces just in case. There was no charge whatsoever for the parts or shipping, which arrived very quickly. I was able to finish putting the drawer together with the new parts and I'm very satisfied. Kudos to Sauder for their excellent customer service.

Some wins some losses - overall, accomplishes need presently.
Overall it’s a sturdy filing cabinet. However there are some things that need to be taken into consideration before purchasing.1) The instructions are well written and easy to follow. Amusing and motivating to keep pushing through.2) The drawers are horrible to put together. The front of the drawer is only secured by a screw at the bottom. The two panels that make up the sides of the drawer should snap into the front panel. However they are not snug Or they are too thin so while assembling they wobble. Again, the front panel is not secured by anything but a screw on the bottom. When trying to gently secure the side panels in, you need to be a tad bit forceful and firmly push. This causes the panels to crack like in the photo I provided.3) when finally completed and the drawers are inserted into the cabinet itself, they do not slide smoothly. The lower drawer does not fit properly and I am having to lift up on it so it does not scratch the bottom. I have tried switching the drawers but still the same outcome: not smooth, does not fit and scratched the bottom. Is it worth the cost? Should be $120-$150. Is it sturdy? Yes. It does the trick and heavy. Will I get annoyed over time? Probably but it does the trick momentarily.

Nice For The Price
Bought it for the wife's home work area, along with a library/bookshelf and desk in the same style. She's happy with they purchase although it took forever to assemble, with a couple of re-do's because the instructions aren't the best, so go slow and apply the old carpenter's mantra...measure twice and cut once. I would also be cautious about loading up the file drawers because this is laminated particle board...not the strongest of material, and if you get it wet it will literally swell up and disintegrate, but for the price, is a fairly attractive, usable piece of inexpensive furniture.

Sturdy, well made cabinet!
This is a sturdy, well made cabinet. The only feature I really wish this had was a lock. This is a nice looking piece of furniture that will be sure to handle what one is looking for in a home office. Took some time to put together, and the instructions missed a step but it was easy to resolve. When you have a piece left over, look at the diagrams closer & you will resolve the problem!

Looks great, could be better.
There were so many others on amazon that was similar for much cheaper, some less than half the cost.I purchased this one which thinking the higher cost should have higher quality.Pros: looks great.Cons: one entire side and legs fell off when I pushed it on the carpet towards it's final spot. I had to get 2 metal L-brackets and bolt that to give it more support. The Quality is really not that great, it's not poor but not good. For $400 USD, knowing what I know - I should have spent that money elsewhere.

Overall a nice looking piece
It is a nice looking piece. It appears to have grooves but they are just painted on. It is particleboard so it will damage easier than wood. Some sites listed this piece near $500. while others at a lower price. I would say around $200ish is reasonable. The top came in damaged but I did get a discount. If you are not good at figuring out directions then have someone who is, put it together. Some said it fell apart but they probably didn’t put it together correctly. It is quite sturdy when put together properly. Overall a nice looking piece and roomy.
