What size shelf is needed?

You have to measure the interior where it is to be located. Also, in the instructions it lists the measurements but I would measure to double check.

What are the exact inside dimensions? There seems to be some disagreement

It's approximately 30" x 50" x 41" deep. I say approximate because it's a bit smaller at the top because of the bracing on the side panels. If you don't store something taller than 41", you get a couple more inches to work with on that 50" width. Even then you only get a couple more inches of height. I'd add a photo but it only allows video, and I don't do that. I have my 22" Weber Master Touch kettle in it, as well as my Weber Lumin electric grill on a 24 x 24 x 30" high table. They fit it nicely but I couldn't get much more in it.

Where do you get the selves from for this storage unit?

I guess you can cut wood too size
