Chess
My grandson LOVES to play Chess. He loves being able to play by himself with a good opponent (I'm not very good! 😀)

This is a good chess set
This is a good chess set. It is small -- this is a travel set -- but not uncomfortably small. I expected more "teaching", but really the teaching mode just gives you warnings on bad moves. The board is touch-sensitive, so when you want to move your piece you press down on the square with your finger or the piece on both the starting and the stopping square so that the computer knows what you want to move. Then, the computer gives its response on the small LED screen in normal chess notation (e.g., D2D4). You then manually move the computer's piece. The teaching mode basically just issues a "Are you sure you want to do that???" when you do a questionable move. It will also tell you if a move is illegal according to the rules of chess. As far as I can tell, it does not explain why it is a bad move or try to give teaching points. This is NOT a chess set that will teach a beginner tactics and strategy. That being said, I think someone with familiarity with chess could use some of the functionality (setting up particular positions, etc), and it provides you an opponent. However, if doing this again I would just use an app or computer software for this purpose.

The pieces suck horribly, but the board is amazing and a great deal if you get better pieces
I initially wrote a scathing review of this, but some 24 hours later I find myself erasing it, and replacing it with the following.I have this chess set, I like this chess set, but I don’t LOVE it, and I do feel the descriptions of its talking are adequate. I have only so far after 5-6 hours of solid usage heard it say “ careful,” “are you sure” “check” and “checkmate”. It does beep after it’s done with its thoughts and ready to select a move. So it does talk, but it is in NO way a tutor, at best, it’s a chess set that comes with a decent and tailorable opponent already in the box.Why my initial review WAS so scathing was because of the pieces. The pieces... omg they are a joke. I would have no love for this at all and would have returned it but I already had a set of pieces about the same size with MUCH stronger magnets that actual kept in place when I tilted it, or even shook once or twice very hard to test the strength of my new ones which held great, ergo it’s the pieces not the board. The included pieces were a joke, they were barely magnetic at all, but I had a travel set with stronger magnets from Amazon for 7 bucks that I traded the pieces out for.Having griped enough about the crappy pieces, I will say that I am exceedingly pleased with the experience of playing on the board with a computer. I find the chess engine is perfectly tailored to its settings, normal mode is just like playing a normal person who regularly plays chess, I’d guesstimate it at 1200 on normal, but idk YMMV.

Very nice!
I bought this as a Christmas present for my 8 year old Grandson. My son said that it is really nice and that he is learning about the game by playing it. He is very pleased with it.

Not worth it
Get computer or iPhone software. It is to difficult for a younger kid to use. Just setting up a game is horrible and takes reading the instruction over and over. Can’t set difficulty level, not happy

Great Computer Chess Game!
Computer is very smart, enjoying this chess game. Played against college son and as you can in photos he beat me bad. It was a Christmas gift and it was a great choice. My children have played chess since they're were 4 and 6 yrs old. Played in UIL school and won many ribbons. Chess is becoming a lost art and hope my review encourages families to put away the screens and try board games and these electronic chess games are amazing when no one is around to play. Easy mode to advance. I recommend to everyone.
