Q: Is the black ring and end painted black and do they subsequently wear off after or scratch off use?

I hadn't thought about it. It's not paint. It looks to me to be powder coating, a process that basically bakes on a thick coating of tough plastic. If I am right it will be very hard to scratch but over a long time it might eventually show wear. I haven't had mine long enough to show the slightest wear but if you have only one belt and wear it daily eventually you might. If you work in a job where your belt buckle contacts another surface frequently (workbench, carrying boxes) it might show wear. But in ordinary use they should stay a nice matte black for a long time.

Dear customer the total length of 31-34" is 42" and the total length of 36-39" is 46".

Q: In the description it says the company is replacing the metal end with a leather. Will the leather be black or brown?

The photos of the newer belts in the listing show both the loops and the tail both being black.

Q: If i wear size 40 jeans, is the 40-43 belt the best choice, or one size bigger?

The answer depends on how much "tail" you want on the slack side of the buckle. I don't like very much tail so prefer the shorter belt. Keep in mind that these belts don't have holes so work much like a strap. The entire length of the belt can be pulled through the buckle and secured.
