Unleash Your Creativity and Capture the Unseen
The Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM Super-Telephoto Lens is a true marvel that has transformed my photography experience. I paired this lens with my Canon EOS R series camera for the perfect match. The 100-500mm range is a wildlife photographer's dream, allowing me to capture feathered friends in their natural habitat with stunning clarity. Whether it's birds in flight or perched on a branch, this lens delivers exceptional results.I added the 1.5x lens extender (purchased on Amazon), which effectively turns this lens into an exceptional super telephoto without breaking the bank. Combined with my camera's sensor cropping, it effectively gives me 1000mm of up-close reach. This has opened up a world of possibilities, enabling me to get close-up shots of distant subjects like never before.Another favorite of mine is the selectable Image Stabilization (IS) modes, including one that improves the experience with Birds In Flight (BIF) photography. This mode has made capturing those moments of birds flying an absolute breeze.Quality and Durability:Canon's L-series has a solid reputation for quality and it shines through in this lens. The build quality is top-notch, and the materials used inspire confidence. I've taken this lens into challenging conditions, including dusty and damp environments, and it has held up admirably. The weather resistance is a huge plus, ensuring that I can shoot in various conditions without worry.Functionality and Performance:The autofocus, powered by Dual Nano USM motors, is incredibly fast and near-silent. Not only does this lens perform amazingly, it is also quiet. I find that the minimum focusing distance of 2.95ft allows for detailed shots, adding versatility to the lens's already impressive capabilities. The rotation-type zoom ring with torque adjustment provides precise control.User-Friendly and Design:The controls are intuitive, and I love the feel of the zoom ring in my hand. The sleek and professional aesthetics match perfectly with my Canon EOS R camera.Pros:- Exceptional telephoto range for wildlife and sports photography.- Selectable IS modes, improve image stabilization, especially for BIF.- Durable, weather-resistant build quality.- Fast and silent autofocus with Dual Nano USM.- Versatile minimum focusing distance for close-up shots.Cons:- The variable aperture (F4.5-7.1) may require adjusting ISO in low light conditions. I had no issues.- The lens's weight may require a sturdy tripod for extended use. It mounts easily!Value:While the Canon RF 100-500mm lens is an investment, it's worth every penny. The combination of superb optical performance, versatility, and durability justifies its price tag.Final Thoughts:In conclusion, the Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM Super-Telephoto Lens has exceeded my expectations. It's a must-have for wildlife enthusiasts, sports photographers, and anyone looking to level-up their photography game. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking exceptional performance and versatility.Thank you, Canon, for bringing happiness and inspiration into my photography journey, and I hope this lens does the same for others.

A Precision Weapon for the Jedi of Photography
The Force is strong with this one. The Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM lens is no mere tool—it is an extension of the Jedi photographer’s will, a weapon of clarity and precision in a chaotic galaxy.Balanced, it is, despite its reach. Lightweight compared to its EF predecessors, yet powerful in range. The build quality? Sturdy as a Jedi’s resolve, with weather sealing that shields against the elements, much like a lightsaber’s hilt remains steadfast in battle.Autofocus—swift as a Jedi reflex. The dual Nano USM motors operate with the silence of a Jedi infiltrating an Imperial base, locking onto subjects with unerring accuracy. Wildlife, sports, and distant starships (or airplanes) alike yield to its tracking prowess.Image stabilization? Five stops of the Force guiding your hand, rendering handheld shots as steady as a meditating Master. Even at 500mm, clarity remains, with sharpness that cuts through the darkness like a lightsaber through durasteel. The variable aperture, a slight disturbance in the Force. At 500mm, f/7.1 it is, limiting in low light. But adapt, a Jedi must. High ISO performance and stabilization mitigate the challenge, and the reward—compression, reach, and stunning image quality—outweighs the cost.Pair this lens with an RF teleconverter, and the reach extends to truly Sith-like distances. A small trade-off in light, but when distance is the battleground, victory is assured.A Jedi’s final verdict: The Canon RF 100-500mm is a weapon of choice for those who seek reach without compromise, sharpness without hesitation, and stabilization without reliance on a tripod. A true masterpiece of the L-series, deserving of a place in any Jedi’s arsenal.Five stars, this lens earns. Use it wisely.

Trifecta! Amazing AF, IQ, and IS!
Yes, this is the lens that gets me out of the house to exercise and get some pretty amazing wildlife and bright daylight action-photos. Cricket, soccer, tennis...It's light enough to carry and use handheld with the amazing IS. It also works fine on a tripod--but definitely turn off the Image Stabilization. The Auto Focus is fast and accurate, and the images are superb. Very sharp, beautiful contrast and colors.About the IS: I've done tests where I'm achieving some sharp shots handheld as slow as 1/15 sec. at about 400mm--under controlled conditions. But what it means in real world use is I can be comfortable with a static subject at 1/160 sec. at 500mm when needed. My hands are sometimes very shaky, so I bit the bullet to get the best IS when combined with the IBIS of the R6.I was hesitant about f/7.1, but doing my research, looking at hundreds of images of wildlife with settings info, I learned that f/9-f/11 is very common even on lenses that can go as fast as f/4. This is because the tighter apertures provide enough DoF at 500mm for more of the subject to be in focus. And with the R6, using higher ISO's for enough shutter speed still results in smooth, lovely images. I'm commonly shooting at ISO 3200 to 6400, and things look fine. Finally, another great feature is the Minimum Focal Distance. For any kind of long walks, it's great to have a single lens that can go out to 500mm and can get as close as a meter for details, for larger insects, flowers, machine parts, etc. I don't believe any other super-telephoto zoom lenses currently on the market can get in this close.
