Q: I have a non dairy yogurt recipe that requires calcium water. Is this the product I would need? I ve never heard of it before.

Hi Nicola, I too have a daughter who seems to be milk and soy intolerant. Also, my wife is called Nicola. What puzzles me is why give a child a product that is low in calcium and then add calcium instead of giving her food high in calcium. If we are talking building healthy bones (and teeth) then it is just as important to look at other connected nutritional and non-nutritional factors such as magnesium, vitamin D3 and vitamin K mixed for starters. Adequate, natural sunlight may be as important or more so in terms of building strong bones as well as regular physical exercise/movement. We had tried almond milk but that did not agree with our daughter plus it is relatively weak in nutrients. Our daughter somehow tolerates ok Munch bunch - non whole milk -, dairy lee triangles and some milk chocolates (kinder is her favorite). Look into calcium content of foods such as the USDA site (you'll may be surprised what foods are high in calcium). You are on the right line regarding nuts, with nuts being high in calcium as well as magnesium. My wife also suggests seeded/wholegrain bread as well as calcium-rich cereals. Speak with a dietician so that they can calculate if your daughter is receiving adequate amounts of calcium or you can do it yourself through the USDA site on nutrition.
