Yellow Jackets
NOTE: I live where summer is wet. If you are in an area with dry vegetation, you shouldn’t put it on the ground as I did. The zapper sometimes catches a dead yellow jacket on fire!As far as I can tell, yellow jackets are not attracted to a bug zapper. However, I found a suggestion on the internet on how to deal with a ground dwelling yellow jacket nest. Using an 8 foot pole, I placed the bug zapper at the entrance to the nest and tipped it 45 degrees over the nest. For the first 30 minutes, they totally ignored it and I was almost ready to throw in the towel. But eventually it (probably the high voltage hum) began to annoy them and they decided the bug zapper MUST DIE - with predictable consequences to the yellow jackets. Although they swarmed around the zapper, the process was slow with only 15-20 getting zapped per hour, but the numbers add up (picture). By the end of the day, they were so completely obsessed with the zapper that I was able to (carefully) walk up and pour a some insecticide dust (rated to kill wasps) into the nest hole without them noticing me. I also puffed some dust into the swarm. The next day there were only 2-3 forlorn yellow jackets wandering around.Another yellow jacket nest:I found a new nest and moved the zapper (picture). Cleaning out the yellow jackets from the bottom tray was easy, but all I found were exploded yellow jacket pieces. I removed the bottom tray as it seemed unnecessary and might allow entry of insects through the bottom opening. The zapper worked even better this time. The photo shows the result after only 30min operation! They were dying so fast that most of the time I didn't hear zaps, but instead I smelled a lot of roast bug. As before, I was able to pour insecticide dust into the nest hole.Cleaning: There are many bugs that get burned into the high voltage grid. The included brush helps clear them out, but it takes a bit of effort.

I LOVE this Buzbug ZAPPER. Within a few minutes, it's already Zapping... !!!.
UPDATE: October 1, 2024 -- It's starting to get cool last night, so although there are still about a dozen Mosquitos hanging off of vertical surfaces this morning, the Buzbug zapper did get about another half-dozen more Mosquitos, overnight. The UV LED's are great, not only attracting small moths, flying beetles, a kind of Black Gnat, but also the Mosquitos, it's not too bright to the Human Eye, so my neighbors have not complained about it's brightness. Halloween's coming, end of this month, so we'll see whether Climate Change has had any effect on our Weather here. I do go out of my way to be sure there are no Pools of Water anywhere for the Mosquitos to Lay Eggs and Breed, to produce more of them. We have Wild Cotton Tail Rabbits and Coyotes here too, so even if the Mosquitos cannot Drill/Bite me, they do go after anything that emits Body Heat, CO2, and has Red Blood, to Bite them (they Drill into their Eye Lids), and same thing with Snakes too (emit CO2), to Suck Their Blood, to get the Blood Proteins needed for their Eggs to Develop into Egg Rafts they lay in any Pool of Water. Only takes a Tablespoon Full of Water to get their Eggs developing into "Wigglers". So far, the Weather's contined to be quite Dry,. hopefully staying that way into Winter. I'm quite happy with the Buzbug ZAPPER. Reliable, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzap... !!!The outer metal cage keeps the Bigger Flying Insects out, so I haven't had anything Big, get Stuck and Cooking Away. It's also a Safety Device, preventing any Electrical Shocks from handling. This is a very well Engineered Product, using High Quality Materials, Good Construction Practices, Cardboard Boxed, Bubble-Padded, and Packaged to survive Amazon Prime's SAME DAY Delivery Service. . It's a Higher Quality Product, made for a Long Life of Great Service, and I'm still rating it, "S-STARS"... zzzzzzzzap... !!!UPDATE: September 30, 2024 -- Ordered a 2nd Unit!!! It's now FALL, but still Full of Flying/Biting Mosquitos, so since this has done such a Great Job killing anything and everything Flying Around inside my home, I've decided to get a 2nd Unit, with Amazon Prime's Great, Same Day FAST DELIVERY. Mosquitos are flying around even in the Daytime, so they must be Very Hungry to Suck My Blood and this will prevent that, and Kill Them DEAD... !!!Arrived ON TIME, thank you Amazon Prime. I've just set it up, outside my Side Door Entrance Way, Works PERFECT, UV LED's and all, so, we shall see, tomorrow morning, just how many of those Blood-Sucking Buggers got ZAPPED... !!!I'm so happy with the FAST DELIVERY, just a few hours. Thank you, Amazon PRIME. For this "Buzbug" Unit, I like the expected 30,000+ hours Operational Life of the LED UV Visual Radiators to attract 5 kinds of Flying Insects, which I'm hoping will kill the Mosquitos flying around in my house. It's been real hot last week, and I noticed there are a lot of Mosquitos flying around my Car Port, BITING ME as I walked from my car, to my Back Door, and a few even managed to follow me into my house, and are BITING ME inside my house. THAT motivated me to Find, Buy, and Install this "Buzbug" Zapper inside my house tonight, and it's already, within minutes of "Turn-On", doing it's Job... Zaaaaap... !!! Music to my ears. I can hardly wait until tomorrow morning to see just how many Unwanted Flying Insects got Zaaaaaaped... !!! If it's as good as I'm hoping, I'm going to Buy and Setup another one in my Carport, for those Bloodsuckers out there. I shall Update this Review tomorrow morning,. Until then, please, Standby for NEWS.UPDATE: Monday, September 23, 2024 - I think my house has run out of Mosquitos, as I haven't seen any get zaaaaaap'ed in the last week or so. Yesterday, was the First Day of FALL 2024, and it's gotten quite cold outside. I don't see any more Mosquitos, so my Buzbug Zapper's been only inside my house, killing the last of some kind of very small flying Black Gnats, about 1mm - 2mm in size, that I think managed to get in past my window screens. I'm keeping all my windows closed, because it's cold, and the Buzbug Zapper's been snappping away, killing off the remaining Black Gnats still inside.I leave it on 24/7, to kill the daytime fliers too. It's becoming less and less kills, so I am very pleased with this Buzbug KILLER protecting me.At 30,000+ lifetime hours, being "ON" 24/7, should last another 3+ years, for pennies of AC Power Cost. I even like the Purple UV Color telling me it's "ON DUTY" too, so that's an additional benefit. :o)

Good design, fair price.
I can't speak to the long term reliability this, but so far, I am super pleased with this having only bought the Black Flag models which are more expensive and prone to fluorescent bulb burnout. These attractant lights appear to be LED, which should run a long time. If several of the little LEDs burn out, the device will still continue to function. The power is awesome, way better than any Black Flag model I ever had. Those flies explode with a crack of thunder - it's just more bang for the buck!

Works as it should. It is a little startling if you forget about it.

Best bug zapper!
I highly recommend this bug zapper. It’s quite simply amazing. We live in an area with a lot of standing water from ponds and stuff, so there are always tons of mosquitoes and other flying bugs. We have gone through a pile of bug zappers which have stopped working after one season. Either the UV light will burn out or the zapping thing will quit. We have three of these and they zap all night, rain or shine. At one point I heard a different sound than the usual pop… pop… pop, from one of the units. I investigated and found that a frog had climbed up and had gotten zapped. A freaking FROG! I shook the zapper to knock the dead frog out and it’s still going strong a year later. I’m not often motivated to bother with writing a review, but this zapper is really that good.
