Makes a great alarm clock for the middle of the night
If you don't want these smoke detectors acting like an alarm clock at the most inconvenient time, don't get them. After weeks of false alarms in the middle of the night I just threw $120 of these in the trash. I don't know how well they work at detecting smoke, but they're EXCELLENT at detecting everything except smoke. I wound up putting them in a ziploc bag and they still went off in the middle of the night. Never in the middle of the day, it's like they have a "when is the homeowner in deep REM sleep detector" built in them that sets them off. A 10-year battery sounds nice, until you realize they're going to false alarm every other night for TEN YEARS. Don't even look at these, RUN far away and get good old cheap smoke alarms that don't go off everytime you put your head on the pillow.WORST AMAZON PURCHASE EVER.

Excellent Sleep Deprivation / Torture Device
WARNING DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!I very rarely write a review on Amazon, but this product requires my input. I have never been so dissatisfied with any purchase that I have ever made. These alarms are extremely loud, which is great if you actually have a fire. The problem is, these alarms will go off at about 4 a.m. for no apparent reason. You'll be running through your house in your pajamas while the unbearable blaring noise wakes up every neighbor within a quarter-mile of your home. You'll push the silence button over and over and the alarms won't stop. Your baby will be screaming, your wife will be in a complete panic, and the household pets will be huddled in corner attempting to escape this sound torture device.Expect this to happen night after night!! Then it starts happening during the day as well. So you might as well expect your household pets to be tortured for hours on end while your at work. Plus, it gets extra special when your neighbors call 911 because they hear the alarms. At that point you should expect your door to be rammed in by the fire department.Kidde customer service is of absolutely no help. Every response is that there must be dust in the device. Dust in a brand new smoke detector? Why did this elusive dust ONLY start "appearing" in my house when I purchased these new detectors? Never had a dusty smoke detector in the last 25 years I've been using Kidde products. I'll never purchase Kidde again, plain and simple, I'M DONE!Kidde offered to send a replacement device, been waiting a month now and nothing has shown up. Every time I call I am told we guarantee you will receive the device this Friday. Well, Friday never comes in the world of Kidde.I hope you take my advice and avoid this product at all costs. You'll be happy you did!

Would be good for target practice!!!
I bought four of these alarms on Jun 3, 2020, to replace outdated alarms in my house. I bought them for the interconnect ability and the 10 year battery life. I have had nothing but problems with them! Twice, they have lost connectivity and I have had to completely reset all the alarms and reconnect them. I have had numerous (at least 10 or 12) false alarms, and not on the same device, all of them have had false alarms. And every one of the false alarms have happened in the middle of the night! I have cleaned them as recommended and still the same results. I wished I read more of the bad reviews before I bought them and I wouldn't have bought them. Seems I am not the only customer having the same problem. Maybe the company should consider recalling this model and replacing them with a better model. I am out of the return window, so unless the company will replace with another model of alarm, I will just use for target practice, and never by Kiddie again!!!

Yep. Perfect false alarm generator - Don't even think about it.
I read some good reviews and thought I’d buy a baker’s dozen. I read the reviews and thought an occasional false alarm was just a for a few products. Oh how I was wrong. The first false alarm I chalked it up to chance. The second false alarm on a second device I started to worry. The third false alarm on a third unit I said three strikes and you’re out. The wireless ones are garbage. You cannot silence them since they say “too much smoke cannot silence“. Well when there’s absolutely no smoke what can you do other than smash them to pieces. I get kind of a perverse pleasure in seeing these things crushed into tiny particle of PWBs, plastic and silicon. I learned you can just reset them and put them back in service, but why? If you can’t trust an alarm to go off when it’s not supposed to how can you trust an alarm to go off when it supposed to? $600 plus down the drain, but my family is worth more than that. We now have some cool target practice discs.Jan 2021 update. One of the wired P4010ACSO-W has failed. I have replaced all of the Kidde smoke alarms with X-sense interlocked detectors. I don't know why I waited so long. Picture is what I have left of 13, three in the picture were already deactivated. I spent $682.91 for these hockey pucks. I had the wired smoke/CO, wireless smoke/co and wireless. So 6 failed (3 - "too much smoke", 3 - didn't even bother) 5 smoke only, 1 hardwired.Kidde needs to take these off the market. Unfortunately they probably won't because that would be admitting fault. Someday, someone is going to get killed thinking there is another false alarm.

Frequent cleaning required
As an electrical contractor, I've installed these units at two job locations, eight detectors at each. First job, one unit went bad in a couple of days and wouldn't communicate with the others. Kidde replaced unit, but it took four months. Second job, after a couple of months one unit false alarmed once a month four times, of course at four AM. Kidde won't replace unit and says it requires frequent cleaning, and vacuum is not good enough, unit must be cleaned using compressed air. My customers are not going to deal with this and neither am I. Done with Kidde
