How to Increase Your Child's Verbal Intelligence: The Groundbreaking Language Wise Method

Make language fun for the struggling reader
Highly recommended for parents of struggling, or reluctant readers. Of the dozens of books I have bought and read in an attempt to help my child with learning challenges, this is the one I have kept. This book is aimed at parents, and does not assume you are homeschooling or otherwise have unlimited time to spend tutoring your child. The first half of the book presents some useful concepts about how children (people) learn, citing studies to back up the points. This is well written, engaging, and illustrated with graphics and sprinkled with quotes and exercises to keep you going. The second half of the book is why I keep it though: there are pages and pages of language-based activities (GAMES) that you can play with your child, with a pencil and paper, or even with nothing at all. These are easy to do, and fun for both of you, unlike so many of the other exercises we have tried. Because they are fun, if they don't work, it is not a waste of everyone's time and energy. You don't need to have the book in front of you to play the games, so the child doesn't even know the game is supposed to be educational, which makes these exercises infinitely more do-able than most. Other authors don't seem to get that a child who is struggling with language is not generally going to enjoy reading and word exercises, and some of the other books and methods I tried were torture for both of us. This is not.

I love this book
I love this book. I'm a reading tutor who has been teaching struggling readers for over 15 years. As soon as I read this book I started to add these exercises into the lessons for all my students. I could see improvements in comprehension, creativity with language and memory across the board. I recommend this book to parents often. I think it should be on every reading teacher's book shelf.

Better for 6 grade and beyond
I would recommend this for sixth grade and beyond, too advanced for our son at this time and developmental age.

Each year they seem to come to me with less and less language and I am so grateful to have found this book written so simplistic
This is groundbreaking.I am a reading specialist who has taught twelve years in grades 1-5, and six years in reading. This is probably one of the most helpful books I've found yet to help my students who many have very low language skills. Each year they seem to come to me with less and less language and I am so grateful to have found this book written so simplistically and so easy to implement. Parents and teachers will find this book easy to read and easy to do. Help the children in your life become smarter about how they think and do. Get this book no matter what the language intelligence of your child is. This book will raise your child's ability.
