Works with MacOS 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)
The documentation is a bit sketchy one location says it works for 10.6 and below, other location says it works for 10.9 through 10.12. I had 10.8.5 installed on an old Mac and it just works fine.Note - it will not appear in the list of printers when you open the printer setup - click the add printer and it will show up there as "fax".I tested it with dropbox service (hellofax) and the resolution is quite high - both ways. The Mac can also receive faxes, save them, print them or email them automatically. One thing that is missing - it does not generates and official receipt as paper fax machines do (but there is a list of sent faxes if you click the fax "printer" icon (with the print queue etc.)Overall create value for Money.I can also see it appearing as /dev/ttyACM0 dialout without installing any drivers (Ububtu 22.04) but have tested it yet - would also be nice to see if it works on the Raspberry PiNote - it will not work with IP phone - but it does work with Vonage phone to IP adapter (no sure if they still make those) as it emulates analog phone, and does not filter out too much of the signal -- speed may be affected though.

Not Many Like This Around
This is a hardware-based, voice compatible modem which makes things like faxing or emulating a dial-up ISP POP (for things like the SEGA DreamCast's homebrew 'DreamPi' solution) possible. Often times people recommend used but commonly available modems, however a new solution is nice to have and integral for making these dial-up adaptation solutions viable. If the voice does not work you may have an older version, contact StarTech directly for a firmware update. Typically the newer batches should just plug and play, mine did. This is also Linux compatible even though it's not stated on the box.The chipsets from 2022 to the time of writing this have not changed, so this should be a consistent solution. A great purchase.

Not compatible with Magic Jack
This unit will not work or will not work reliably with Magic Jack. I received the unit yesterday and could not get it installed and working. I worked with Star Tech support for over an hour and everything we did proved that the unit was sending out the phone number - Magic Jack could not see the number being sent. The tech support from Star Tech was excellent and if the disclaimer that the unit does not work with Magic Jack, I would not have purchased the unit. Further, there are posts on the web that indicate fax modems do not work in a VOIP environment. The product is a sweet product, and it was easy to install - This is not a negative review of the product nor the support that they provided.

Bought 5 years ago and never used it until now. Remarkably, it "just worked".
I bought this 5 years ago but ended up not needing it until today. Amazingly, it just worked. Never needed the CD it came with (good because I have no CD drive lol). Windows recognized the device right away - no extra software to install. I was able to send a fax on the first try with the built-in Windows Fax and Scan app. I honestly expected much more of a hassle for such outdated tech, but was pleasantly surprised at how easily it worked.

Supplied drivers not Windows 11 compatible
Just bought this and used it on my Windows 11 Pro 24H2 system. The drivers supplied by StarTech are not Windows 11 compatible, and won't install unless one turns off Memory Integrity & Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection. In other words, unless you cripple a lot of the security features of Windows 11. However, the default generic Windows 11 modem driver does work with this device out of the package well enough to send faxes, and "Windows Fax and Scan" (if installed) will work with it to send faxes. I have not tried this device as a dial-up modem for network connectivity. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Windows 11 has been out 4 years now, and StarTech has no excuse to be selling this product with outdated drivers.

Works with Windows 11
Works with Windows 11, but had to disable core isolation in Windows security.

It works.
The product and support was fine, Unfortunately because of Windows 11 using it can be a multi step process. I wrote the procedure on a card to make it easier. I was not able to see the full body of the fax that I was sending that included some PDF files. Again I would blame Windows 11. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Works with Windows 10
This fax modem worked perfectly for me. I have Windows 10 Home and I was concerned which fax/modem would work with my pc. There are so many out there. I tried this one and was glad I did. I plugged it into a USB port and windows 10 gave a chime like it found new hardware but I didn't get a window pop up saying "new hardware found". I went to Windows Settings/Devices/Bluetooth & Other Devices and there was the Conexant modem. I didn't have to load any drivers. Windows 10 Home has a built in Fax program. Type FAX into the search window and you should see the Windows Fax and Scan App. Just click it and the program loads. I Faxed a 3 page document. I didn't hear any of the typical FAX sounds when it dialed and connected but that could be a setting on my pc. The lights on the modem did flash and the program showed each step of the FAX process to a successfully sent FAX. I checked with the recipient and they received the FAX and it was clearly legible. Using this modem was a lot easier than I anticipated.
