2011 Toyota Avalon: D4S Bulbs Work Flawlessly
2011 Toyota Avalon. These Xenon PHILIPS D4S 4300K HID bulbs work perfectly in my 2011 Toyota Avalon. Initially I had the driver’s side headlight flickering and coming on and going off intermittently. Later it stopped working all together. I considered the problem may be the ballast, but fortunately it was just the bulb and once installed they worked flawlessly. I ran into a couple of snags that I will detail below in the interest of helping Avalon owners in replacing their Xenon HID headlights. The Toyota dealers were quoting $182 to $225 per bulb just for the part, and $300 to $325 per headlight for the bulb and installation. As I considered this a form of legalized highway robbery, I decided I would try and do the job myself. I could not find a YouTube video or diagrams that showed the 2011 Avalon Light assembly but I watched a number of Lexus ES350 and other Lexus/Toyota replacement videos for HID bulbs. Those video are generally helpful to learn how to disconnect the cable to the bulb and how to remove and secure the bulb with the clip, but the assembly is different. Please understand that access is very, very tight and visibility is obscured and limited but I was able to change the bulb by only removing the battery. I did not need to remove the front engine cover, the bumper, or the light assembly. I read it was a good idea to remove the battery and let the car sit for a while not only for access issues but because the ballast transforms the current to an extremely high voltage that could be lethal—and so use extreme caution and read up about this. The ballast assemblies for the Xenon headlights are built into an assembly and cover that may be removed by rotating the assembly cover about what I estimate to be about an eighth of a turn. I have included pictures of a ballast light cover assembly below for reference and identification purposes. After the cover is turned it unlocks and may be pulled off. The ballast and cable that connects to the bulb is within the housing cover. Watch the Lexus ES 350 videos for instructions for disconnecting the cable that connects from the ballast to the light bulb itself. It unlocks by turning it following which the connector may be pulled off the bulb. The bulb is held in place by a spring clip that clips in place in two separate places. When initially unlocking the clip, I recommend taking a minute to practice and to get used to putting the clip back into the locked position a couple of times so you get the feel of how it works. This was important to me because while I could see where the spring clip connected on the passenger’s side with some difficulty, I could not see the top of the spring clip where it connected in the locking slots on the driver’s side. And so my practice of locking and unlocking the spring clip sight unseen before I removed the bulb was very important after I put the bulb in place and locked the spring clip. After the spring clip is unlocked, the spring clip folds down and the bulb may be removed from its position in the light assembly. Take time to notice the position of the grooves on the bulb when it is removed from the light assembly. Next take the new Phillips Xenon D4S HID bulb from the box, and do not touch the bulb itself but hold it by the molded plastic at the bottom of the bulb. I found it helpful to remove the bulb from the bottom of the Phillip’s box so I could grip only the plastic base. The bulb inserted into place like the Lexus videos showed, and then I clipped it into position and replaced the cable and cover with the ballast, and then reinstalled the battery. And voila… there was light. But later I found out that sometimes putting a battery in will disable operation of all but the driver’s side power window from the drivers side console for power window operation. I had to reset the windows using the process described below.I hope this helps someone since there is such limited information available related to installing these bulbs in a 2011 Avalon. Do it yourself and saving hundreds of dollars over the price charged by the Toyota dealer.Copied from TSB PD002-05Anytime the battery terminal has been disconnected, please initialize the driver’s doorpower window and front passenger’s door power window after reconnecting thebattery terminal. With ignition switch in the “ON” position, do the following:1. Push down and hold the driver’s door power window switch to completely openthe window.2. Pull and hold up the driver’s door power window switch until the window closes.Continue holding the switch for approximately one second until the switch changesfrom blinking to a constant illumination.3. Check for proper operation of the “one–touch open and close” function by fullypushing the switch briefly to the “DOWN” and “UP” positions. At this time the power window switch for the passenger’s door window shouldbe blinking.4. Push down and hold the passenger’s door power window switch to completely openthe window.5. Pull and hold up the passenger’s door power window switch until the window closes.Continue holding the switch for approximately one second until the switch changesfrom blinking to a constant illumination.6. Check for proper operation of the “one–touch open and close” function by fullypushing the switch briefly to the “DOWN” and “UP” positions.

Works on 2012 Honda CR-Z
These things at the dealership were close to $400 for ONE bulb. Even on Rock Auto they were like $200. Think I spent just over $100 here for two. Great value. The actual replacement process on my 2012 CR-Z was haarrddd, but doable. Wish they were a tad brighter, but that might be due to my headlight housing being foggy from use.

Fit and work perfectly
These bulbs easily fit and worked perfectly as per their specs. These were installed a couple of months back and have been working perfectly ever since. I would highly recommend these if you're in the market to replace your HID lamps.

Good replacement bulbs for Lexus
Very good product for my 2007 Lexus es350. Not as bright as the original Lexus bulbs but the price was so much cheaper. They are still very bright and well worth it.

Exact replacement for 2016 Subaru Legacy
I compared the brand, part number, and markings to the lamps I took out of Legacy that I purchased new - they were exactly the same. After 7 years the old lamps still worked but from my rough measurements the light output was about double with the new lamps and the color at night was more white and less yellow.Exactly as described in the listing and I saved at least $50 on the cost of two lamps! There is an Outback video for this generation of Subaru on how to replace the lamps that was very helpful. Remember to use rubber gloves, pull the fuses for the low beam left and right, and remember everything inside the housing runs the lamp on high voltage and the lamp runs hot. Pull the fuses and let it cool down and the voltage decay. The instructions for the lamp even warns there may be high voltage stored in the lamp itself! Be very careful and it is a fairly easy job.
