The Thoth Companion: The Key to the True Symbolic Meaning of the Thoth Tarot

Useful
USEFULWhile this book is a useful addition to the THOTH Tarot cannon, and has its place, it does not stand alone. Its strong points are the cards in relation to the 4 worlds of the Kabbalah, to the symbolic details of the Golden Dawn Inititiations, and to sexual symbology It includes some clear charts.I found the annotation of the individual card symbols good but not comprehensive; while I gleaned some new information, overall this book feels a tad thin. It is incomplete as a sole reference guide to this deck; card divinatory meanings are adequate, but not newly or individually insightful.I found some glaring symbolic omissions: O Fool - no identification of the pinecone on Thyrsus sceptor as symbolic of the pineal gland;II High Priestess - no reference to the Grid of Light whatsoever (?!) - or its symbolism as the final veil of the Ain Soph AurXXI Universe -no identification of the `strange whorl' in the background as a Mobius Strip!XVII Star- Mis-spelling of Primum (NOT primium) Mobile really irritated me..I recommend this book - but with some reservations: for use along with Angeles Arrien's The Tarot Handbook; Akron & Banzhaf's The Crowley Tarot, & Lon DuQuette's Understanding A. Crowley's Thoth Tarot- all 3 of which are deeper and juicier.

Excellent Intermediate Thoth Book
this brings forth some of the lesser known aspects of the Thoth symbolism. IE: why the Empress is sitting the way she is. there is some things that is obvious, others that aren't quite as known unless you've spent years studying the deck.it's good for those that are starting their journey until the Thoth but want to move past the Understanding the Thoth by DuQuette (great Thoth starter book) but not quite ready to dive into the Thoth Essay by the man himself.writing is a bit dry, there is a lot of focus on Kabbalah and Astrology without much explanation, so need those two as foundation before getting too deep into this particular book.

A deep book
This book as its title suggests, covers the meaning behind the images and symbols of the Thoth tarot deck. If you are looking for an understanding of the images and symbols this book will definitely help you. The author describes everything from the Qabalistic (Tree of Life) perspective. For every card there is an indepth description including the Minor cards. What it doesn't have however, is a long description about what the card means in a reading. But I don't feel that this is the purpose of the book. There are plenty other books that do that including Angeles Arrien The Tarot Handbook and Tarot the Mirror of the Soul by Ziegler. I am happy I bought it as it adds to my Thoth Tarot book collection and each book I find fills a gap. I thought it was worth the buy.

Great Book, Be aware of the wrong alchemy symbols in back.
This book is great as far as the interpretations go. I agree with others that it's a regurgitation of info found in other books. I found the appendix to be helpful -- there, you will find symbols of planets, attributions, modalities, etc.****One thing to note - I found INCORRECT Alchemy symbols for Water and Air in the appendix, p.182 (First Printing of First Edition, 2007). The water should be an upside down triangle (opposite of fire) and the Air should look like an upright triangle with a line through it.

A Truly Helpful Book
This is the one book in the Thoth deck that I've come across that is truly helpful in using and understanding the deck. It retains a great deal of information on the various symbols and correspondences for those who want or need them while still making the deck accessible to a wider audience. Crowley's original work is still available to anyone who wants to slog through it but most people these days have neither the time nor the background to really make sense of his turgid and meandering writing style. So thank you, Thoth Companion, for a great public service.

Another study of this amazing Tarot.
This study was well written offering practical and concise meanings to all the keys to this TAROT. I liked the Fifteen card spread information... I had never worked with this spread. The book however did not add too much more than other works on the Thoth Tarot.

I didn't like the deck, but the book arrived on time and it was exactly what I paid for.

Helpful book
For anyone studying the Thoth tarot this is a helpful book. I would have given it five stars but imo it does not go into enough depth re the Qaballa, which is a major factor in these cards, but there are other books available which do go into a lot more depth.

Great for Experienced Readers.
I got this book as I am trying to work with the Thoth tarot more, being a novice at tarot, I wanted a book which would have a good explanation of the Thoth tarot. I've had the Thoth tarot for years, but have never felt connected with it.This will be a great book for experienced readers of the Thoth deck, and those who are progressing with learning it. But if you're a beginner struggling to learn the Thoth tarot, then I think you'll struggle with this book. The reason is, you need to have some background of the tarot, astrology and kabbalah first. However I do think it's a really good book, and I have put it away until the time I feel ready to pick it up again, when I am more advanced in tarot, and ready to learn the Thoth deck. This book has lots of charts in it, to help you with the cards etc.
