La Crosse Technology314-519 Digital Window Battery Operated Thermometer with Daily Records

First, nobody is paying me to write this review. This is an excellent upgraded design to the previous model. These are intended to be mounted on the outside of a window; in other words, they are outside thermometers that display the outside temperature to the person on the inside of the window. This model has a translucent backing on the outside, unlike the previous model, which was clear. This makes reading the temperature easier. It has a LARGE, easy-to-read current outside air temperature display as well as two displays below it that show the 24-hour high/low temperatures.Keeping in mind that this thermometer exists entirely outside, it has a well-sealed battery compartment with a gasket around the access door and a small Phillips screw to secure it closed. The screw really can't be any bigger than it is because of the design. A small set of eyeglass (or jeweler's) screwdrivers should be fine to use. Although the screw is a Phillips (+) head, a properly sized flat blade screwdriver will work as well. A small dab of Vaseline or other grease may help with any screw corrosion due to the elements. I would strongly recommend using Energizer AAA Lithium batteries because they're 100% leakproof (protecting your investment against corrosion) and they have a long life. Finally, I would suggest placing the thermometer on a shaded window to eliminate incorrect readings due to solar radiation.I've written a lot about this little device, but I hope it helps you. I've found it to be accurate (compared to other closely placed thermometers) and should give you years of service if you just give it a little TLC like I've outlined above.

It sticks to the outside of the window. The numbers are very readable through the glass. I recommend it for someone wanting to know the temperature outside from the inside.

This small thermometer is easy to see and seems to work well. Installation provided some challenges. It does not come with a AAA battery which you will have to supply. To access the battery compartment, you will need an extremely small Philips Head Screw Driver. Once the screw has been removed, there is no way to get the top of the compartment off unless you use a thin safety pin or thumb tack to poke into the hole that the small screw was in. Then you can pry the top of the battery compartment off and install the AAA battery!

Will not work without battery . . . BUT . . . even though I have eyeglass and even smaller screwdrivers, none were small enough to remove screw to put battery inside. Waste of money as well as energy needed to produce and ship it. Shame on manufacturer for making this junk.

We've had this thermometer in every home we have owned. Reliable and quite weatherproof.

Nice little thermometer, perfect on the window. Visible. Temp within range of other thermometers I have around the house. I like it.

I had another thermometer similar to this one which I liked very much but it had suction cups which would not hold to the window. I like this one much better. The numbers are large, it sticks firmly to the window, and can even be read at night. It's a little difficult to put the battery in, but other than that it's perfect in every way. I am very pleased with it.
