Q: Does it provide any protection from UV rays? Trying to keep red cedar from turning gray!

See my other answer. The project I put this on was already a little gray, not terrible but... The product initially made it look less gray but it definitely not virgin material to start.

I don't think this will prevent it, since he says in the video that "eventually the wood will turn gray, but at least it will have a nice water protection layer on it". HOWEVER.....we have an acacia wood table that gets ragged, warped and gray every winter from the extreme snow and ice temps. Nothing we tried worked, until I sanded it, then applied 4 layers of Watco's teak oil and then a light coating of Varathane ultimate spar urethane (oil based), for a layer of UV protection. So far, it's working and has remained in perfect condition. Both of those are very easy to apply as well. I only used a soft microfiber covered sponge and used it for the teak and the varathane. I found it to be easier than a roller or brush. More control. I am no expert on this, but this is what worked for us. I have some 1950's redwood chairs that I will be trying the same products on so it should work fine. Teak oil is "THE" application to use on Teak furniture to protect it from going gray (as teak furniture is known for), so if it works for that, it should help your red cedar chairs I think. Hope this helps.
