Buckwheat hulls are used in our nursing pillows and our sleep pillows. You should use an inner case to hold the hulls and then a cover over that. This enables you to wash the cover regularly Martin

That aren’t for either heating or cooling. They are using as a filling in cushions and pillows. You would be better looking at wheat grains. They can be used for heat/cool packs.

Yes It is a natural alternative to plastic beans

I've made a number of yoga cushions over the years and also have used the buckwheat hulls. So in answer to your question, yes the hulls are good. If your question relates to quantity, then I'd have to say it really depends on the size of the 'large' beanbag.
