Neat & Tidy
Good size handsets / very neat bases. Clear instructions and set-up was easy. Seems to work very effectively. As usual, there is just the frustration of installing our phone book entries!

Good value, easy install
Easy set up manually or using set-up wizard. Data transfers to 2nd hand set automatically. Plenty of features and choices on volume, call settings, call blocking and answer phone etc. Comes with a printed handbook, really useful. Feels somewhat unstable when charging on the base, but overall a good choice.

Good sound quality, good features
We recently bought this set to replace an older set of BT phones which we'd had for 6 years and which had had a LOT of use - we have poor mobile signals where we live, and our children don't have landline phones, only mobiles, so we always have to use our handsets for calling them, and them to us. This puts a lot of strain on the batteries, as our daughters can be on the phone for 1-2 hours at a time. The main handset battery finally gave up, lasting only a few minutes before the low charge warning went off, so we looked at what was available and felt that this new more modern set but similar to our old ones in functional menus would be ideal. The new sets are smart, a little more modern in style, and slightly slippery at first due to the smooth surfaces, but everything else is great so far. The call blocking works well (we are with Sky, not BT), and once you have all your numbers in the phone memory (up to 200 separate names, with 2 numbers for each name, plenty for us), then your own contacts can get through immediately, but numbers not in your phonebook have to announce who they are, and if they don't you can reject the call and block them. If they do say who they are, then you can choose to take the call (press 1) and also to allow their calls through in future.Earlys days with this new set, but so far we are very happy with them. Tip: if you have two sets, like we do, it makes sense to interchange them from time to time, so that no one set gets all the battery wear. So, we have one in the lounge, and one in the bedroom, but we are swapping them every week or two to spread the battery load, since the lounge set gets by far the most use!

Works with Vodaphone router on full fibre broadband
Box and instructions don’t indicate that this trio supports VoIP, although the Amazon site search indicated would be. Several posts on Google sites indicated that BT phones would not work with Vodaphone routers, however this base unit functioned perfectly. I bought this to replace an older BT cordless phone trio which didn’t.

Something of a disappointment
You'd think BT of all people would be able to supply a phone which had acceptable sound quality but this is not the case. I'm disappointed with both the quality and also the volume of incoming calls. The processor struggles with everyday tasks ; you get the feeling they've gone for the cheapest processor they could get their hands on. For instance if you want to see your contact list there's a delay while it's "gathering contact list". I would also question why it has so many different ways of accepting and/or blocking incoming calls. The instructions are a bit of a dog's breakfast and it took me about a week to fully understand them.Another unwelcome feature is that you can block or allow calls from whatever numbers you wish but you can't see a list of those numbers. So if you ever want unblock a number for whatever reason, your only option is to "unblock all", which is a clumsy way of doing things. Similarly , you can "allow" numbers to bypass the call blocking but you can't see a list of the "allowed" numbers. You just can't , that's all. This is an absurdity.I was so disappointed in this item I did consider sending it backfor a refund but as we very rarely use the landline phone nowadays ( I only really bought this for the call blocker function) I couldn't be bothered with the extra hassle. To be fair, it does block calls effectively.Only other thing worth mentioning is that the phone when in the base station is fully 8 inches ( 20 cm) high and may not fit where you want it to fit.

If you are bombarded with unwanted calls then this is your answer.
I am 78 years old and care for my invalid wife and was finding that I was being pestered by sales calls and would be scam calls. It was obvious that I was on some "vulnerable old git" list. I saw an article in the press about call blocking and when I went online to investigate came across an article recommending the BT8500 telephone. I looked at the reviews which seemed mostly favourable so went ahead and ordered one. It has transformed my life. I set up my contact list which was very easy and straightforward, plugged it in and waited for the pesky calls so that I could add them to the block number list. Well the phone has been in situ for over a week now and I have not had a single nuisance call. As soon as they are asked to identify themselves they hang up. So I have not had to block a single number as yet. It's bliss when the phone rings as I know it's a genuine call. I found the phone easy to set up and easy to use and the only action required so far has been to add a few numbers to the allowed list. If every phone was like this then those dammed people would go out of business. EVERY OVER 65 SHOULD HAVE ONE.

Disappointed
This is a replacement for the earlier model. It is smaller and so are the keys. Wonder if there is a better way to transfer contacts otherthan boringly time consuming manually. Having now done so I'll bet someone says there is.! Easy to set up and additions to one are transferred to others. Mine is a 4 set.Edit....the phone cradle is so unstable the phone keeps falling out. I've glued it to the table. I will not buy BT again.
