Great Scope

Probes are a little difficult to compensate, you must use only the tool provided in the probe kit.

Great scope, great price, but the screen is too tiny

Awesome scope, especially for the price. Just wish the screen was a bit bigger. It's so small, you need glasses for it. It almost feels like a smart phone screen.

An amazing bargain

This is beyond anything you might imagine for this price. Zero regrets with 250 MHz, 12 bit resolution, all the decoding, compact size, etc. Agilent/Keysight and Tektronix should be very worried. And you can buy the logic analyzer interface on eBay for cheap. And not sure if they have changed the hardware but the fan is really quiet. Anyone claiming this is too loud needs to find something else to complain about. This is an amazing scope for the price.

Very good entry level oscilloscope

Cons:- Really low sample rate (1.25 GS/s for 1 channel but only quarter of that, 312.5 MS/s, for 4 channels) puts a limit on the frequency of non-sinusoidal signals DHO924 may show without significant false ringing. I want at least 10-20 samples per period of a signal that has a lot of harmonics (e.g. square wave).- Absence of dedicated per-channel controls. I understand the desire to use the same board and case for both 2-channel and 4-channel scope, but some of us would gladly pay $100 more for per-channel controls. Alas, it looks like per-channel controls will be extinct soon (darn global warming! :-).- The scope is really tiny and very light. I prefer more substantial ones that do not try to shift and/or fall when I press buttons.- Minor: no enclosed user manual or quick start guide. PDF file is easy to find online. Saving $1, Rigol?- Minor: theoretically, 250 MHz scope but sometimes manual says the limit is 200 MHz. So is it 200 or 250? I say "minor con" because -3db point (practical bandwidth limit of the front end) slightly exceeds 300 MHz (nice!). The real limiting factor is, IMHO, not so great sampling rate.- Minor: 10.1" display would be much nicer than 7" one installed in the scope. Nowadays, the cost difference is so small... But I understand the desire to save few bucks and/or push overly picky customers towards more expensive products like DHO1000x series.- Minor: audible fan noise. Not terrible but, nevertheless, annoying. If the product were larger that could be easily addressed.Minor: takes forever to boot. The cost of using Android?Pros:- 4 channels cover 99.99% of needs whilst slightly cheaper 2 channel scopes are good enough in 90% of cases. IMHO the slight premium one has to pay to double the scope capacity is well justified.- Once booted, feels fast and very responsive.- Easy to connect via Ethernet or USB and access, control, program from a PC or a laptop.- Really nice low noise 12-bit front end (vs traditional 8 bit FE).- Built-in and free decoders for the most popular protocols (UART, IIC, SPI, CAN, LIN).- Priced on par with other entry level 200-250 MHz 4 channel scopes. High end brands like Agilent, Tektronix, Rohde & Schwartz, LeCroy, Keysight want more. Much more.- Support for optional $400 16-channel active logic analyzer, PLA2216. I put into pro section because a) the analyzer is really well built, b) the user gets an option to have a true mixed signal oscilloscope (though I will dare to say that those who really need an MSO likely will need faster scope. For students?), and c) most popular protocols -- one at a time -- could be decoded via built-in decoders, without this option.- HDMI output allows the use of better monitor, screen, display.- USB C power allows the use of power banks. Reportedly, 90 Ah will easily run the scope for an hour.- 100x100 mm VESA mount on the back allows flexible wall or bench or shelf attachment.- A lot of memory. Default 50 Mpoints, optional ($150) 100 Mpoints.- Built-in 25 MHz arbitrary frequency generator. The same scope without AFG costs $100 less.- Junior models are slightly cheaper and, with some effort, may be hacked.- Much, much, much nicer than previous star, 8 year old DS1054Z (hacked to the max). At least that is what people say who tried both (I do not have 1054Z -- it is too slow for my needs). Conclusion: it seems to me that pros outweigh the cons. Recommended.

By Far The Best Documentation

This comment is regarding the DHO924S. I'm not going to do a review on the scope itself. I'm sure others will. But I will say it's awesome. Comparable to any scope I have ever used. And I have used a lot of them, in my 40+ years of engineering, including some in the $30K range. I'm not saying it's as good as a $30K scope, but it is certainly a capable scope and built very well. But this commentary is about the documentation. I've purchased a lot of Chinese made products. Maybe over 1000. Documentation is almost never of any value. But the Rigol documentation couldn't be better. All documentation is by download. It includes:* a 30 page Quick Start guide* 270+ page User's Guide* 426 Programming GuideThe documentation written for this scope couldn't be better. And I couldn't be more happy about it. And it's even in readable English. Not like some that are run through translation software, where you need a translator, to understand the translation. The owner's guide covers every button and function of this scope. The programming guide, includes the syntax and use of every command. It even has programming examples at the end.Thumbs up for Rigol's attention to detail.

JUST AWESOME

DHO 924SOrdered one as soon as they got available.late Nov.of course I didn't go over all the settings .I'm a hobbiest and may never need to use it to its full potential .I will keep updating this review every now and then as I get to go deeper into the vast majority of it's options .touch screen is a very good option and settings layout self explanatory .so far I'm pretty impressed .I have couple high-end tektronix scopes and arb wave gens and know my way around things.didn't have time yet to compare it to the real Japan made scopes accuracy .for now the only concern I found was when I was using it powered by NOT THE SUPPLIED power supply but a simple power bank and I decided to run self test, it would suddenly power down and restart few times and never finish the self calibration.as I didn't hear relays clanking I realizedit probably doesn't have sufficient power and sure enough when I plugged it into supplied power supply it ran through calibration without problems.done for now.
