Conservative but Gorgeous.
I looked at this watch almost daily via the web for about a month before pulling the trigger to buy it and I have not been disappointed. It’s a very conservative design but its beauty lies in its simplicity. This looks like something my grandfathers would have worn back in the mid-twentieth century. It is a rather large watch but that is my preference. I like a watch to look substantial on my wrist. I have a 7.25 inch circumference wrist and you can see its size in comparison. It seems to gain about seven to eight seconds per day but that’s ok for me because I “hack” my watches to WWV or to my cell phone every morning when I put them on. Although the watch is rather large, it is not very heavy. I barely notice its weight. It’s an automatic watch but also has the luxury of a mechanical stem that allows you to manually wind it. This watch is certainly an eye catcher and at a glance people can tell that its not a cheap watch. It comes beautifully packaged and I highly recommend it. I’m already looking at my next Alpina purchase.

Good looking watch but defective!
When I opened the box this watch looked nice and seemed high quality. But then I discovered the second hand was frozen at the 9 o'clock position and would not move no matter what I did. And the crown itself did not feel very sturdy. Very poor quality for a Swiss made watch. So I guess I'll go back to my Citizen and Seiko watches.

Only Accurate Two Times a Day
I really like this watch. Handsome, simple, accurate and did I say handsome? After three months of light duty, it failed. Now its only accurate two times a day. Since I purchased it here, and not from an "Alpina" dealer, the warranty is in doubt. Hard to fathom buying a watch to have it break in a couple months and depend on kindness for repair. Might have better off to take the cash and use it to light my cigars. A "pretty" useless watch. Gave it one star for arriving on time.UPDATE: Sent this for warranty. The repair shop at first didn't acknowledge the warranty, hence the above about warranty in doubt. But since then it will be covered. Repair statement indicates "total overhaul" and "well worn". For a watch that was used less than a month with almost zero wear.Funny is that the repair shop sent a special box for return. Upon repair it was returned in a simple shipping envelope. Broke watch gets special treatment. Fix watch doesn't. It was returned without harm or damage of any kind.UPDATE: After the warranty work, the watch has been working well. No issues. Adding a star for getting it fixed.

A beautiful, engineered time piece heirloom.
The media could not be loaded. If unfamiliar with the brand, Alpina has over 130 years of experience engineering time pieces. Over the years they have been known for introducing many innovative patents in the watch making industry. Today they are well known for creating and leading in the luxury sports watch industry. When it comes to the aesthetics of the Startimer Pilot 1920s Heritage, I will have to admit that I am quite favorably biased towards its design. The two designs of watches that I love are aviation and art deco style watches. When I first saw the Pilot 1920s Heritage, I immediately fell in love with it.Alpina ships this watch inside a drawstring bag emblazoned with their logo. Within the bag, is the large cardboard box that holds the instruction manual and actual watch box. The watch box safely holds the watch itself wrapped around a pillow. After removing the watch from the box, you immediately can tell that the quality of the watch equally matches its aesthetics. The watch has a nice weight to it without being too heavy on the wrist. The sapphire crystal provides clarity to the dial while providing a hard scratch resistant surface. The leather band has a simple elegance that is accented with stitching near the pins. The clasp is brushed stainless steel to help conceal wear and scratches. Accessing the keyless works to set the watch, you can feel the quality of the Swiss movement within the case. Just below the crown, there is a release to open the back of the watch to view the movement through another crystal. Inside the watch back, you are greeted with the swirl marks of the machining. This would be an excellent space for an engraving if the watch was being presented as a gift. Looking through the crystal on the back of the watch, you are able to see the heartbeat of the balance wheel. The automatic mechanism for winding the watch is also visible. Watching the movement of the watch is quite mesmerizing and enjoyable.Overall, this is a beautiful time piece. This is a watch that will be cherished for many years to come and can be handed down over the generations as a family heirloom. Whether you are purchasing this watch for yourself or as a gift for someone special, this watch will definitely be enjoyed by its owner and appreciated.
