Steady, speedy, and great for rural broadband
Living where we do, in a small village in the countryside, our broadband connection is unstable at times, and often dropping out. However, the speed isn't too bad at 6meg. We have survived for years on an old Netgear router, which was beginning to get very hot, and a little unstable. A router upgrade was long overdue.Enter the 7800DXL... I had been recommended Billion, as a brand, by a friend who works in networking, and has done for years. Although I would say this device is at the upper end of the price bracket, it has already proved it's worth. Our connection is now synced at 7meg (a full 1meg faster!), and is rock-solid. We have suffered no drop-outs. Traffic in the home seems to be prioritised better, with the PS4 and Xbox One consoles enjoying more bandwidth. The unit itself isn't particularly modern looking, but doesn't get hot, and can be wall-mounted if needed. Setup is quite straight-forward, but some tech knowledge may be useful compared to simpler units such as a BT HomeHub. The router supports dual band wireless networks so on setting up, you are actually configuring two wifi access points; one on 2.4Ghz (the norm for some years), and one on 5Ghz (more modern). The unit broadcasts both of these access points, so your devices can be connected to 5Ghz (if supported) for faster networking speeds, or 2.4Ghz. This is a great feature, and means that the slower devices won't slow the whole network down. The features of this router are far too extensive to go through in detail here, but there is a huge number of settings that can be adjusted. For the very tech-savvy, you will not be disappointed with the endless twekaing this unit allows you. Most notably, and one of the main features that led to my purchasing this device, is the ability to adjust the SNR on the line. This feature, by itself, may be very, very useful for those who work from home on an older ADSL phone line, or live remotely enough that increased broadband speed would be well received! Put simply, tweaking this number can often eek a significant speed increase from your existing phone line. It can be confusing, but an internet search for this model number will find a useful guide. To summarise; this router has turned our home ADSL connection from unsteady but acceptable, to useful and speedy. I am very happy with the result, and can highly recommend.Note: I also purchased a Netgear WN3000RP Range Extender to use with this router. No problems in setting up, and provided the required result. Great.

Great router
This is the most expensive modem/router I've ever purchased, which was after frustration with slightly cheaper products that kept disconnecting or having wireless issues.I connected this router and it just stays connected, no issues, it connects a tiny bit quicker than my previous Buffalo router but also has easy adjustment of the SNR so on a stable line you can tweak this to increase connection speed, mine is still on Auto.Dual band wireless is great as you can create 2 networks one at 2.4Ghz and one at 5Ghz and also set on/off times individually. One thing to be aware of; after a week or so of use I could no longer connect any devices via wireless, seems this is a fault with earlier firmware, I did an update to version 2.32c and its been fine since (over a month)Not the cheapest but I'm very happy with it to date, extra configuration options and stability in my case make it worth it.

Seems very good so far...
Only just bought this router but it seems brilliant so far. I have been around modems/routers since the early 90's and have had my fair share rubbish kits and spent hours installing, tweaking and flashing firmware. I have had several Belkin routers which were pretty good, but dropped connections from time to time, and a couple of years ago a Netgear that I couldn't even get to connect to my phone line - which is only a mile from the exchange in suburbia so no idea what that was all about. Two years ago I bought a Billion 7800N which gave all sorts of options and worked almost flawlessly until about 6 months ago when I had the first issue. It lost all the settings after being switched off. Then a few days ago after a week on holiday (switched off) I came back to find initially it wouldn't connect and a rapidly flashing port light, then wireless didn't work. I needed a new router - and now! where can you go? PC World offer Belkins and Netgear which I didn't trust. The Billion 7800N when connected easily outperformed my previous Belkin on both wireless range and line speed which was a good 20% faster. I wasn't impressed with the reliability of the 7800N, but I decided I would give Billion another chance and ordered using Amazon's next day service. Sure enough it came. This router 7800DXL looks professional and was quickly set up. I've had stuff before that you seems to do all the right things with passwords and logins and it doesn't seems to work then somehow it does. With this Billion they have a set up routine for initially logging to your ISP and then you set up your wireless and it just worked. Within 10 minutes of plugging in, my PC was connected to Ethernet, and my home media stuff, and then phone, and laptop all on encrypted wireless with the SSID hidden. The 2.4ghz range is similar to the 7800N and everything seems steady. There are loads of options to tweak if you use port forwarding and firewalls and all that stuff. yes, with these Billions you can tweak signal and stuff, but for me it works speedily and I'm quite happy. This is an expensive router...some companies give you a free router, maybe, just maybe I could have bought one at £50 and it would have been fine... but there is nothing worse than keep finding your laptop has dropped its connection when you are comfy on the sofa working or browsing and you have to mess about rebooting. I'm hoping this router gives me the reliability of connection and speed as the 7800N. I took a chance that I was unlucky with the electrical reliability of that model as two years is poor, so hopefully this one lasts.
