Q: Some photos show a single edged blade which would be inaccurate and other show a double-edged. Which is it?

It was a double edged blade. And I can't recommend this product at all. The one we received was of terrible quality with pits along the blade, gouged out wood, scuffed leather. It was so terrible that I returned it for a refund, not a replacement.

Q: Does the tang (or shank) extend all the way up to the pommel? Is this sword considered "battle worthy?"

Any sword made from stainless steel is not battle worthy. Anything stating "1065-1095 high carbon steel", "full tang", and "heat tempered" is considered combat ready.

Q: Does this sword come sharpened? Or it it just a dis playing piece

It is edged, though not technically sharpened on a whetstone, it also has a very sharp point. I have a Roman dagger that is not edged and is designed for costume use. I would not use this sword for re-enactments, it could cause serious injuries.

Q: Is this sword "Full Tang" or is it a "Rat-Tail Tang"? This is a pretty big factor in whether or not I buy it.

Nathan, I do not honestly know the full condition of the tang. I did remove the "ball" at the end of the handle and at that point it is a ¼" threaded rod or bolt with another nut tightened to the remaining handle. My thought is that the bolt is welded on at some point below. The nut at that point was on realty tight and I decided to not completely remove it. In my review I said, "first bevel on the blade was not very even on entire blade. The handle was made of wood and seemed very sturdy" which is true, and probably worth the money. The blade is about 1/8" or 4 mm thick, 3" wide at the widest part near the point, and 2 1/8" wide at the hilt. Personally I really like my "Whetstone Cutlery Authentic Hand Forged Roman Sword" and "Roman Gladius Legion Gladiator Historic Sword". The "Whetstone" definitely has the blade material extending to almost the pommel, but only between ¼" to 3/8" wide then threaded for a ¼" nut. And the blade is thicker (almost ¼" thick at the center of the bevel) and highly polished, unlike the "Szco Supplies Handmade Roman Gladius Sword" It has gone up in price to 61.99 from 39.99 when I purchased it. The "Roman Gladius Legion Gladiator Historic Sword" is still 45.19, and is a little bit longer blade at 22". Hope this was helpful.
