Recommended quality and reliability from Brother.
When buying a laser printer just over three years ago, I was trying to find the point were both printer and consumables were good value for money, not wanting to get lured into the trap of getting a cheap laser printer only to get fleeced when having to get more toner. It turns out the medium-sized Brother DCP-8070D was just right for me. Since then, I have reordered toner twice, and I've been happy with both print quality and how long the toner cartridges have lasted, which - although I am not keeping count - seems close enough to the stated number of pages (with 5% coverage - basically half a page of plain text with 1 1/2 line distance and good margins.) for me not to bother trying to keep fine track of it.When it comes to toner, I have used non-brand toner in the past for printers at work, but as there were issues of cartridges refilled when they clearly are not meant to be and the consequent mess of toner particles in the printer, and fascinating lines and smudges appearing in prints that can be called charmingly idiosyncratic at best, disruptively messy at worst. For my own use, therefore - and as I don't print such huge volumes anyway - I thought I might as well get the original, and after running through a few of these toner cassettes, I have not been disappointed.Brother has - as also correlates with my experience - a well-founded reputation for reliability and quality, and the toner cartridges are well packed and easy to replace. The printer also lets me know well in advance when the toner is starting to get low. So well in advance, in fact, that I often end up getting one months before it actually needs replacing. I like having the peace of mind of having it ready when the printer says it is running low.Brother laser printers and toner cartridges are both recommended. If I have to get a new laser printer, I'd probably go with Brother again and still only buy original toner.

High price for high quality but it is worth it
I've been using compatible cartridges for a while now (due to cost reasons). However I have finally bitten the bullet and gone back to genuine OEM Brother toner simply because the print quality is superb. This toner is a very black black. Text is sharp and very clear. There is little to no banding of images and gradients are very clear. The toner itself has quite a good gloss to it and it reminds me of the HP LaserJet toner. At 1200x1200 dpi the output is superb. Even at 600dpi in toner save mode the output is so clear, sharp and black. The halftone (dithering) is lovely and tight compared to compatibles/refills and you get a genuine 1200x1200dpi. The printouts are beautiful. It's like a brand new printer again. The text is bold, clear and crisp on the 100gsm letterhead paper I use so my letters are high quality and professional looking. No more dropouts, fading or fuzzy text for me. Even on basic 75gsm copier paper. Graphs and charts are much more legible now (even on a mono laser) and the printouts are very professional looking - even on internal documents. This toner well worth the money if you can afford it. I don't know how many pages the cartridge can deliver in reality. Brother say 8,000 pages at 5% coverage according to the ISO tests, but your mileage will vary depending on what you are printing, resolution, density, etc. It's still worth it in my opinion.

Good value - original replacements are best
We've been using 3 Brother printers in our office and they've lasted the pace where their Samsung counterparts have not. It always feels painful to spend almost £100 on anything which powers your printer! It delivers 8,000 pages at 5% coverage so will last longer. I always buy original cartridges as in the past I've cheap-skated and found that the ink leaked, didn't print properly etc.

Terrible delivery Problems
This Item was finally delivered nearly two weeks after it was ordered. The problems where fundamentally with the courier (APC). Firstly they left a card when unable to deliver, unfortunately the card was left at an address other than the delivery address. They then contacted the supplier when unable to deliver fro fro information. Apparently this was not responded to by the supplier so APC then returned the item back to the supplier. I managed to catch this when checking the delivery info on the APC website. So, prior to the item getting back to the supplier APC agreed to reroute the item back to me. Unfortunately APC actually labelled some other poor persons item with my address... so I received a second hand Ford Mondeo gear lever. I of course then contacted APC yet again and the supplier. APC eventually located my item and delivered on the 20th.. the item was paid for on the 11th. I'd not recommend any supplier that uses APC as their courier as this is not the first time APC have screwed up. As for the toner, it is genuine Brother and a very good price.
