I don't see why not if you can clean the old liquid out well enough.

The 7000 series is designed for extra comfort for sensetive skin. The 5000 version is designed for speed to get a faster shave.

Q: How close of a shave do you get? Is it better than cartridge razors?

No it is not sorry, with cartridge razers you get a very close shave but the beard stubble grows back strongly within 24 hours, with a Electric shaver its yes a close shave NOT very close, but for me (average stubble, not heavy) i can shave every other day before beard stubble is noticeable .. and even then its not as heavy as a 1 day wet cartridge's razor shave (my opinion only i add
