Transformers Optimus Prime R5

The Canon Optimus Prime is a true robots in disguise. It is not a 1:1 scale camera. It is roughly 80% the size. The camera alt mode makes for a great display piece. The transformation is not finicky nor frustrating. A great figure for any Optimus prime, transformers, and/or camera collectors enthusiast.

Like others mentioned, this is NOT a toy. It's definitely meant to be a build-once-and-display kind of thing, which honestly I'm all here for. I was able to follow the included instructions relatively easily with no translation required (their instruction manual illustrators need a raise pronto) and it took less than 30 minutes total to set up. It's now sitting happily in my dry cabinet next to my other cameras :)

There are lots of small plastic parts with hinge pins, so that it can transform from a Canon R5 camera to the articulated Optimus Prime transformer. I am amazed that this could actually be engineered and manufactured. The tolerances had to be very tight. A big problem is that the very detailed instructions are only in Japanese. Fortunately there are also lots of step-by-step pictures, but be prepared to do a lot of trial and error work. Be patient and do not force anything — this is plastic, so it could break if forced. I strongly recommend that this be built by a skilled model maker. It took me about two hours of trying to figure out how to transform it from the camera (that's how it is in the box) using the pictures only. I doubt that I will ever transform it back to the Canon R5 camera. It makes a nice display piece. I repeat, it is not a toy. Oh, and Amazon shipped it in a plastic bag-type envelope. The box inside was a bit banged-up.

This was sort of an impulse buy. I love Canon cameras and I grew up with Transformers toys, so the little kid in me couldn't resist. The build quality is great and I love that it almost looks like an authentic Canon R5 camera (it's a bit on the small side in comparison). My only regret is I don't really know how to transform it from robot to camera and back without watching YouTube videos that demo step by step instructions. This is nothing like the Transformers toys I grew up with. Lots of engineering and moving parts make it a bit confusing. Nonetheless, I'm still glad I bought it.

I'm a huge camera nut and when I saw this, I could not stop myself from wanting it! It looks amazing on my shelf and is a fun little toy to have on my desk too! I'm not even a fan of canon cameras either, I'm a Sony simp, but this just looks so cool and I can't help but love it!

Bought for photographer s/o, he loved it. A little confusing to transform at first but once you get the hang of it it’s great!
