Something does not make sense with what you said..Not sure how they could smell like plastic unless they were burning..I installed 15 of them and they all worked great..These lights do not put out much heat. They use 1/10th of the power of the stock lighting so if something was going to smell like burning plastic the originals light would..It also sounds like you may have a voltage problem..You could test a socket and you should be at about 12 volts..

They are bright white. No blue tint. Converted all my RV lamps and brightened my coach 100%

I bought these to replace my RV lights in the ceiling. I truly don't know if they will work for tail lights.
